    Posted: March 02 2017 at 11:45am
I am trying to purchase a 1941 LB No4 MkI that looks to be matching metal.  The stock is clearly refinished.  I don't believe stock is original.  Also I don't believe the mag is original.  I see band s is marked 1946 but I dont see FTR mark. The metal finish is a big concern. Who did it?  Both the seller and myself are trying to come to a fair price.  Seller does not know the value either.  If anyone could help with what a fair price would be and provide any further info that would be great.  I currently own a 8 Enfields one of which is an all matching 1941 LB that did go through FTR however the stock is matching to the metal and has strong LB markings still.  Pics can be found at the link below.

After consulting with another collector there seems to be other issues. Too many for my interest.

your photos have been removed  ,

longbranch [and savage] only made the mkI in the first year , then changed to mkI* , longbranch made a little over 10k rifles in 1941 IIRC and change occured at 1L8xxx from my recollection , if you have one they are fairly rare , if you can get one it would be a nice find , there will not be a great history of these selling on the auction sites but i would look ,

small parts are interchangeable , worn/broken originals get replaced , these should be easy to find and you can seek out the correct vintage as a project ,

Prices are hard to determine  and are higher in Canada  I have been told as high as 1000+ CND for a clean one.

Here be the rare beast

Here are the photos.  When I moved the folder I guess it killed the link.  Sorry about that.  The bolt was clearly re-numbered, the stock looks replaced and refinished, and the metal looks refinished to me.  Some have said it was done by Bubba others say it was arsenal redone.  I am hoping to get a definitive answer.  Also any ideas on price would be appreciated

thats a really clean looking rifle , should bring a fairly good price to someone wanting that model , price depends on where you are and what the market is , 450-500 some places 500-600 others a whole lot more in canada if the above info is correct ,

you wont get a more definitive answer to who did the replacement as there were no records of individual rifle repairs

I dunno why - or where - folks are getting the idea that prices for these rifles are a whole lot more here in Canada.

Anyway - I'm a tad confused. I thought I saw a "Savage" stamp on one of the wood pieces?
There seems to be other markings that aren't `consistent`to my untrained eye.
I await some definitive info on this.

It looks like a Bubba job to me. The bolt is poorly re-numbered. Stock is wrong. Stock and metal refinished. Does.anyone know for sure?

Not looked at the photos, but here in Canada there are folks advertising for No 4's with uncut barrels. They're buying these old sporters and are re-fitting them with NOS  wood out of the UK.
I am a little concerned about this, as there is Much more to re-stocking any Lee Enfield than simply slapping a new fore-end on it.  It must be fit Correctly.  I've seen some of these stock -ups and some are sloppy. Some fore-ends even move back and forth!!!

Hoadie,
Over here in Alberta we see bog -standard No 4's with stupid asking prices like $1,000 to $1200.

Asking price being the key!
Richard.
Some seen around $600.00 and a real deal here.

average price here for a LB is approx. $400-$500 Cdn. That would be in "Very Good - Excellent" condition.(That's approx. $305 USD).withouit the sticky-bit or sling.

I only paid $250 Cdn for my Carbine.
My Vimy Vet doesn't count - cuz I got that uber-cheap. I was engaged to the Grand-daughter of the guy that carried it @ the Ridge.

I guess they can "ask" whatever they want..but recon they'll be sitting on 'em a spell.

..& its doesn't seem to be just the Enfields. I had some friends over for Ice fishing from Blighty, last month.
He bought an SKS (Russian - 1951) in EXCELLANT condition.(Lotsa cosmolene tho) for $210 Cdn, taxes in.(Canadian Tire). Since he cant own one in Blighty (legally) he stuffed it into one of my lockers till he gets back for the deer hunt.
He'll never loose $$ on it. But it costs $160.00 Cdn every time he wants to bring his own shootin irons over for hunting. (Almost pays for itself after 1 trip)

you can ask whatever you want - in the end it will be how much a buyer is willing to pay ,
