I have in my hands a No4 mk1 dated 1944 with serial BT11132 making it a maltby i believe, I picked this up at gander mountain for 100 bucks less a 40 dollar gift card so 60 bucks and i've got my first enfield.
It's a santa fe special. Bore is in fantastic shape mirror bright and strong. and our local bass pro sells remington 303 1)no magazine, would like a 10 rounder but if i can find a santa fe 5 rounder that would be awesome 2)an "L" type rear sight 3)safety is loose and causes problems My eyesight is not great and this is my first gun with a peep sight so i'm hurting in the accuracy department. ATI makes a rail that fits these i believe can anyone tell me how those work? no machine work? fits through rear sight pivot and expands in front? no photos because i lack a decent camera sorry EDIT: any tips on tightening up the safety? |

i agree she started life as a maltby no4 mkI , once santa fe got her they sported it , these were actually well done and have developed a cult following that raised these to a 'collectible' status of their own , should be a nice rifle and a great shooter for you ,
one day if i happen upon the right one at the right week moment ............

Check the magazine really is 10-round, some 10-rounders were internally blocked to allow a (hunting) legal 5-round capacity.
The "L" rearsight is set for 300/500yds, so it'll probably shot high at shorter ranges. You could replace it with a ladder type easily if you wanted to. What exactly is "loose"? It might just need the screw directly in front of the safety lever tightening. You need a magazine for a No4, the No1 won't fit. If you find a second 5-rounder for a non insane price I'm looking for one as well! |

Girlfriends/wives/other halves rate lower than firearms. Either get her interested (and end up getting more firearms that she pays for) or get a girlfriend with her own firearms.

Sorry I didn't respond, I missed the link completely!
Try the S&K instead it's clamping block is way more secure than those front grub screws gouging into the receiver. |

Update: managed to find an adjustable rear sight for it at a local gunshow and got a pair of promags for it for christmas, a little work with an air grinder and they now take 10 rounds its a bit of a tight squeeze but feeds well, also fits rifle no problem
