Unsure of the chamber wear when shooting steel case ammo?
Always looking for military manuals, Dodge M37 items, books on Berlin Germany, old atlases ( before 1946) , military maps of Scotland. English and Canadian gun parts.

Time will tell if steel cased ammo is detrimental to our old rifles.

I haven't researched it but part of the brass cases advantage is to grip the walls of the chamber when fired and reduce backthrust on the bolt head.  How effective that is I can't tell you. The expansion of the brass seals the chamber well too.  The .303 Brit is a low/med pressure case anyway so I don't suppose it would be an issue.
I expect extraction will be easy as it will not 'resize' much in the chamber.

I personally think the wear issue with steel case is overstated, but to each their own.

If the Soviet Milsup ammo is any indication, steel cased ammo should work okay in most rifles.  I do know that if you have a roughly milled chamber, steel case can mean very hard extraction.  However Enfields have a superior bolt design for extracting fired ammo and I don't think the Enfield's production ever reached the laxness of rushed manufacture typical of Soviet WW 2 production.

Now to try some.  I've come to like the non-reloadable ammo since it tames some of the excessive OCD behaviors I've acquired shooting and then saving cases for reloading. <grin>

Enfields are like chips, can't stop at just one.

The steel-cased stuff I've seen appears to have some type of coating (she!!ac?) on it. I guess it's to keep the steel from rusting? Anyway, it can make it a bear to clean the bore and chamber. I've seen AR-15s that would fail to extract and even get cases stuck if the chambers aren't kept very clean.

Oh he!! no!
I remember some she!!ac-coated brass 7.62 we got issued years back. After a bunch of rounds the stuff plated out all over everything! We literally spent DAYS scrubbing that muck out.

My 24 inch barreled AR hates the steel cases !!  after about 20 shots it will jam !!  kind of embarrassing ... We have switched back to brass cases ...

Dont think I ever ran across any .303 steel cases yet , and dont plan to buy any .... got so much .303 ammo right now I wont have to buy for quite some time !!!

But I will reload a few cast projectiles, just to show Hoadie how next time he comes down, also plan on showing him how to use the shotshe!! reloader since he has one he picked up just like mine !!!
Just have to get him down here after the CND $ gets back up on par with the US $ again !!!

The apparently painted Soviet and Chinese 7.62 X 39 and 7.62 x 54 all seems to work very well. lovely smooth cases and good for the one shot!

Range Report:

The ammo has copper washed cases

Accuracy: groups were 3-4" (75-100mm) from the bench
The recoil like any other Ball ammo

My only complaint was in the particular rifle I used the ammo shot  to the right about  6"

Match grade no, but should be acceptable casual shooting ammo
