Not long back during a conversation with a member (who may introduce himself) that involverd a pattern for the Lee Speed styled sporting stock with the upshot being that I am going to make him a pattern for the MK 3 in the Lee speed style as he has a copying machine to do them in walnut from there.
At the same time a friend here in NZ got in touch to say his Martini has had a 303 Enfield barrel fitted and was ready for a stock for that as well so after he delivered the barrelled action here this morning I decided to cut out the two of them at the same time as they both need the through bolt hole and I thought to drill them with the one set up.
Because I generally do both of these sporting stocks with the checkered steel butt plate I cut the butt to suit as the curve they need would make the L O P too short if it was cut for a flat faced soft recoil pad although they are hardly needed for the 303.

I wish I had just a fraction of your wood working ability! When it comes to dealing with wood I am all thumbs, I swear.

Looks good man, i made a butt stock for my "target lithgow). i did it out of two inch maple that started as my fireplace mantal. ill post a pic up when i get home. i didnt finish the wood so its all dirty from holding it but it works lol. i also didnt drill through it i sent a smaller bolt in through the receiver into the wood. i did the parker hale style butt stock with no cheekrest. i made the front stock from aluminum and it just goes to the end of the reciever and covers the mag and trigger assembly. it has a bipod so i never have to hold the forestock. next mod is to make the bipod come off the forestock not the old rear site on the barrel.

Have had a few hours in the shed today and have the stripped action down into the wood.

I do like the steady progress that the hand router gives and allows enough time between incremental settings to ensure depth is gained going down in a straight line.

When it has been roughed out the smoke fitting can start and here I am just about down to the last little bits

And with it settled down it is time to call it quits for the day.

It was the turn of the bottom metal to be fitted in today and by using a push pin rather than the threaded screw I can have easy and quick fitting to get the lines as it lowers into the wood. Thus is where the little 6 oz tapping mallet takes over from the larger model. It is better to tap a dozen times to get a cut rather than once with the heavier mallet that might just be more than required.

Don't forget that this is a pattern stock so there is no fancy grain or colour to it, just something for the copy machine to go off, but it will allow  the machine to produce the Lee Speed style sporting stock  in nice walnut when done.
