I'm not using the bottom of this. It'll be a spare.
I'm going to make a flat bottom one. My dad has a Parker Hale, that'll probably never see daylight ever again but,I digress. The magazine is a flat bottom piece and it looks like it was silver soldered together. I've got a small sheet of 22 gauge steel, silver soldered, flux, and the will to make my own five round mag. If anyone has a Parker Hale magazine, could you please post a picture of it for reference.

Personally I prefer a flat bottomed 5 round magazine .

My plan is to cut where the picture of the magazine has been cut and cut again where the scribe line is on the picture. Then weld top and bottom together with carbon steel TIG wire. Use a Dremel to smooth inside and out. The bottom angle will be as steep as original so it won't be flush to the stock of the rifle, but round corners will remain. Just a plan I've been working on.

Go for it I'd say. I'm going to make one more of these flat bottom ones. And then I'm going to do what you're describing. I'm sure your welder friend knows to tack one end and then start stitching the bottom section on so as to not distort the metal. It's only 22 gauge steel and just using a propane torch on this one had it starting to warp.

Yup. Turn the TIG real low, tack in about four places, let cool. Keep tacking in different spots and cooling until weld is complete. The magazine is actually thicker steel than some of the stuff we've welded! I usually do the prep, fitting and finishing. Buddy is the welder. He can pretty much weld a Coke can!

Something to note with the flat bottom P-H is the flange intentionally extends past the body in the middle. This was to give a firm gripping place when extracting the mag which can be tricky with the minimal protrusion of the short body beyond the stock wood.

Yep. I remembered that, right after I smoothed mine out. There is still enough to grip however.
I'm making another one today. That one will definitely have the protruding wings on it.
