Is there any recomendations for removing the damned stuff other than
 
Wet patch wait 10 min dry patch repeated until he!! freezes over  which is my current method

What product are you using on the patch?
I have some Parker Hale 009 that I was advised to use by my local armoury. It smells bad (so keep it out of the kitchen) but seems to work well. Best to let it soak for longer.

I use Shooters Choice Copper Remover.  15min first and a good 20 thereafter.  Also an oversized bore brush.  The .38 pistol brush helps with periodic use.  Still a job though.
