I did noticed the ejector screw in the .303 Ishapores is further back than that in the 7.62x51:

But, how far?

Probably the difference in case lengths?
0.217"
7.62 is 2.015" & 303 is 2.222"

Thanks for the info! This is how I measured the 303

and then the 7.62x52 rifle

Assuming the reference I am using is the same for both rifles and the screws have the same head diameter, I am getting that the 7.62x51 screw is 11.1 (or .44") closer to the front than the .303. Where did I screw up?

I'm not sure I understand the question.
Are you drilling the hole somehow?

If we Are talking about the ejector screw, then it Needs to be closer to the front, because the cartridge case is shorter, just as Shamus  said, above.

Are we missing something??

The question is 0.44" vs .217". It seems what I measured is close to 2x what you calculated and I cannot explain why.

And, I do not plan on drilling any holes on the rifles.

I don't think the difference in position is necessarily the same as the difference of case length; as long as it does the job! it also has to eject a live round, and the overall length difference is probably more than that of the case.
Also for example on No4 rifles converted to 7.62 the magazinse has a piece that ejects the case instead of the screw.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

i must agree , you are comparing a rimmed cartridge ejector [albeit longer] to a rimless cartridge ejector which may well need a different "throw" to accomplish the task , it may also require a different screw length and other aspects may come into play , these are not a simple length issue in my mind
