The firing pin protrusion on my M IV 2* is about .022, with some burring on the face of the firing pin shoulder where it strikes the bolt head. Can this be turned or polished off to give the correct .040+ protrusion?

The short answer is...yes.

You might have to dress the back face of the bolt head stem too.

Your Mk.IV 2* is a .22rf and has a two piece firing pin, no?

ok, I am getting my rifles mixed up.

Is it a Sht.22 Mk.IV?

Or is it a Sht.LE Mk.IV?

Or is it a No.4 Mk.2?

What caliber? What year?

again , use of proper nomenclature is critical to these discussions , i was confused from the outset by 2* does that mean the mark with two stars ? or was he saying no2 mkIV* ?

photos are needed when nomenclature is incorrectly presented or confused .....
