Hi Everyone
I have a 07 WW1 bayonet which has been handed down from my grandfather....Its a hooked type with all the marks and dated 10 10. It has a scabbard( Marked A C) and both are in very good condition. The maker is "Sanderson", I have marks on the pummel. Can anyone help with the regiment?, the marks are: 2 R J M 503 I think the 2 is 2nd Batt and the R is reserves?????. I would be interested in selling it and would like any advise you can offer as to value? |

I have managed to find out through the Armoury at Leeds and the Jersey militia website that the marks are for : 2nd Batt Royal Jersey militia.
Can anyone offer any idea as to value? |

it looks an excellent original hooked quillon bayonet , by the way i suspect the 503 to be a rack number , you will most likely get a lot of offers as this is a rare specimen , its in extremely good condition [DO NOT CLEAN OR MESS ABOUT WITH IT] it will be something a high end collector will pay for because of its value , but it will be desirous to most any serious enfield collector ,
even though sanders was a high producer of P1907 bayonets the intact hook will bring top value , most of these were cut off over the years , this bayonet style was derived from the japanese T30 , i cannot speak to prices there , or even here these days , i've owned mine for way over 10 years now so ive been out of the market , you almost never see one for sale here , but its probably the most expensive commonwealth bayonet , i would recommend searching the auction sites to get a realistic value for what has sold and what it went for , you could list it on these sites and may well get an offer , may i ask why you would part with such a family heirloom ? |

If you want to get best price, it would be advisable to put it in a specialized auction. But if it was your grandfather's, why would you want to sell it? It's a piece of family history, and money can't buy that!

Thank you for that information. The bayonet has been in a cupboard for 50 years or so.....It moved house with us three times and will end up in the trash at the end of my time.....My wife never wanted it on the wall so better to go to someone who has a collection where it can at least see the light of day....

Hi, Nice bayonet you have, I see your in the UK then can I suggest you search for JCMilitaria they are based in the North of the UK. I have bought bayonets from them and only sell good stuff they should be able to give you a value. After a quick search these go for around £300 on the open market. Good luck.

You could also contact Jeremy Tenniswood Militaria in Colchester, he could probably find a buyer; but I don't think you will have any trouble selling it due to the condition. But worth going through a bona fide specialist to avoid attracting too many tyre kickers. Best of luck.

Definately trying it on! don't get caught out. It is fair to say that a dealer will not give you top retail, he has to make a living. I think a specialist auction is probably the way to go, just don't be in a hurry.

remember - the dealer has to make a profit , he will offer you half what its worth [a very fair price for taking on the effort of selling it at top dollar] which will take time , if you prefer to get your cash and out of the loop , if you want top dollar you may sit on it as long as he will have to till the right buyer comes along , if all you want is cash take the offer of half and be done with it , otherwise you can expect to be spending time here on the net trying to sell it , its your choice ...
im not promoting either , im just sayin ...
