Can any one help me find a magazine for my Parker Hale .308 Enfield? Does anyone modify .303 magazines to handle the .308 cartridge?

Its more than just a modification AFAIK. I think it's a different magazine.

No4 .308/7.62 rifles use a different mag to the .303 either made by Enfield stamped CR141A with a date, or Sterling made ones which are not as good. My Charnwood No4 has a Enfield one and I have a spare which is new. Enfield ones in the UK go for loads of money even secondhand £150+
You can use a .303 mag but use as single feed resting a round on the platform then chambering the round. |

That was what I'd heard. Something about the ejector needing to work with the narrower 7.62 round & being a part of the 7.62 mag body. |

The magazine shown in the 2 eBay auctions are for an Ishapore 2A/2A1 rifle.
Although these were designed for a different rifle, they can be made to fit and work well in a No 4 rifle. Having fitted and used rifles with all three types, I would rate the functionality of the 7.62 magazines as Enfield -> Ishapore -> Sterling from best to worst. |

The 303 magazine can be modified with an insert, but the result would hold less than 10 rounds of .303/7.62.
On the milsurps site, in the Lee Enfield section there is a thread called "Happened upon an interesting No 4 last weekend"; posts #14 and #64 show such a converted magazine.
