good - photos - im up for that , i would be proud of that rifle if it were mine ,
as to the politico , we can beat that horse while dead till he!! freezes over - i doubt in our lifetime we shall see change , but hope springs eternal and i pray my grandchildren see changes that matter , i do believe - my own beliefs here , that as long as communism continues to choke the life from counties and as long as dreamers find it agreeable there will always be people in turmoil and poverty , little to nothing good comes from every turmoil they create , it is a life of depravity and strife , just sayin ,

Thanks A Square....okay an update to this thread. The serial# on this rifle is EAL 1243. All Longbranch parts including a brand new LB magazine I've been saving for the right rifle and this is it. The mag it came with was a Savage and probably swapped as a replacement for the original mag it was made with. Now it's all Longbranch parts including the safety. I'm a happy Enfielder!

Very nice rifle, and great to hear you had the right mag, Canuck.
Evanguy, As Hoadie says. I cannot for a minute think why a level headed bloke like Harper could be replaced by a drama-queen like we have. To compare Harper to the leader of N Korea is bl--dy stupid if I may say so. Mods, Apologies for the OT. Please delete as you see fit. Edited to say apologies to Evanguy. I should not have responded to his political comments until my blood pressure med kicked in!!

Its truly sad when the only available choices are the pedestal, or the thing floating in it.

Need help identifying my Enfield has a crown with a stylized p below it. It has a 2 stamped on the lock to remove my bolt, and has the serial number stamped in 2 places.. The barrel is longer then every Enfield I've searched which leads me to believe its a EAL or longbranch but the numbers don't match to the ones I've researched for either model it does have a orangish brown butt on it that reads whippet h.s.b & co with a dog or greyhound logo mainly inquiring for cartridge and ammo purposes plus intrigued by history of my guns please help!! Thanks in advance! Oh and the serial number starts with 61c its is 7 numbers and letters all together with c being the only letter and a capital B below the serial number

Can you get a good, sharp picture of it for us?
There are so many variations & models from several makers in multiple different countries its almost impossible to identify without lots of detailed info & a picture or two of the whole thing & close ups of any markings is the best way to give us that information so we can be more helpful to you. EAL & Longbranch barrels would be the same as any other as they were all made to the same specs. Here's what (little) I did find. 1: Its probably not an Enfield at all! "The Trade name registered HSB&CO. stands for Hubbard Spencer Bartlett & co." They made "house guns" for other companies like "Savage-Stevens". 2: Its probably a shotgun, not a rifle, "Whippet" was a "house brand" of shotguns made in .410, 20 Ga & so on. Some will have had long barrels. 3: IMPORTANT! It may not be usable with modern ammunition! Many of the older shotguns were made with "Damascus" barrels, essentially a bunch of wires formed & heated & beaten together. While safe with old Black Powder (gunpowder) loads modern smokeless is way, way too powerful for safe use in them & will cause them to burst open on firing! |
