Wanted to share one of my recent Enfield Restorations. This is a No. 1 Mk 111 that had been sporterized. Before and After shots. I included the volley sights and magazine cutoff. Its a mix master now but it shoots and looks so much better.

I have a "sporter" in a similar state and was thinking of putting it back. Could you give a run down on what you had to purchase , from whom and cost of the parts. If not too expensive , I would do it.
They look so "business like" in battle dress ! You did an excellent job on your de - sporter . Gary

I'm curious.
When replacing the sporter stock with a military style how much refitting is needed in the bedding & draws areas? Is it easier, or worse if you pick between a used & a "new" stock? |

Thanks for the kind support. To answer everyone, I bounced between four suppliers: Apex Gun Parts apexgunparts.com, Springfield Sporters ssporters.com, BRP Corp brpguns.com, Liberty Tree Collectors libertytreecollectors.com. There is also Numrich's and Sarco all of which can't provide every part, but combined I was able to get all but one part from them. The hardest part was the volley sight assembly which is an aftermarket piece I found for sale in a google search of all things.
I purchased the rifle from a local pawnshop for $125.00. The stock, from BRP, was the largest extra price at $150.00 shipped. Most other parts were combined from ssporters to get free shipping (above $65.00). I did have to pay one more shipping charge after I found that the main screw assembly that secures the barrel to the stock was cracked and wouldn't hold, so I had to buy a second one. All total I invested another $255.00 in material and about three days of stock finish work (copious amounts of boiled linseed oil) into the rifle. It is dead accurate out to 200 yards and a joy to fire. Stock fitting on this new stock was very good. It was tight without being too tight. I didn't have to modify or adjust the draws on this rifle. I have one used stock that I have fitted on a Maltby No.4 Mk 1 that required minor, and I mean minor adjustments so I feel confident that most stocks, new or used, would not require much work. Thud

I just ordered a birch/beech dp stock and all needed metal bits for a no1 105$ shipped.from springfield sporter. I have a enfield 1918 matching metal that I bought before things got crazy,
for 150 bucks came with a fiberglass stock[really heavy and ugly]but with a sk scope mount, and sierra matchkings, shot a 1/2 inch 3 shot group. It will never be original so the sk may go back on it. [very slight wood removal to fit]have 400 plus mark7 bullets that I pulled from some click bang stuff. will see how well it will shoot in proper form. out here on the high and lonesome we can get out to 800 plus yards.just hold high, and into the wind, now thats fun... |
