I have a 1943 No4MkI*, ser# 12C67xx, US PROPERTY stamped on receiver,
S51 stamped on buttstock, S stamped on trigger housing, bolt ser#
matches receiver, buttstock and receiver lower stock have been
she!!acked but are in great shape, missing front and top stock. Is this
truly a barn find sniper rifle and if so what is value.

We need to see some pictures to get a definite but,you said you can read the US PROPERTY stamped into the receiver. That's leading me to believe that there are no scope pads mounted on that side?
Is there a (T) stamped in the receiver near the ejector screw? |

The two aren't mutually exclusive. The U.S. PROPERTY is on the top face of the receiver & the pads are on the side.

You need to post pictures of the wrist socket and left side of the receiver to get an accurate evaluation.

Shamu. The forward pad covers up part of the receiver where the US PROPERTY stamp is.

Yes, but a small part only it should be still clearly readable.

What makes you feel this is a "sniper rifle" opposed to a normal lee enfield? I dont wish to offend you but it seems there is a though out there that all and any lee enfields were/are sniper rifles. Ive seen countless stories of " grandpa sniper rifle from the war" that turn out to be everything but.
Google 'no4(T) scope mount' if the scop mount doeant look like that chances are its just a normal sporter lee enfield. There should also be a big capital "T" stamped on the receiver by the ejector scew. If it is a No4T that would truly be an awesome find. A sporter no4t in canada could sell for 400-1000$ but just a sporter no4 it would sell for 150-250 if it was an untouched no4t with the scope it would be worth 4500-12000$ |

A '42 12C Savage should look something like this. A picture of the pad screw heads would help too.

that cocking piece would be correct on an early savage rifle , as well as most other early no4s

I don't agree. The cocking piece on the No 4 in goosic's picture is an SMLE one, not an early No 4 one. The early No 4's are like the one in MJ's photo.
