I'm hoping you guys can help me identify what exactly this rifle is. It would have been issued around the time of the korean war 1950 ish. Hope the pics go through. It was modified and shortened, but is functional and in good shape. What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Don

Here is what it originally looked like:

If the barrel has not been shortened it can easily be restored.

If the barrel has been cut It makes a good deer gun.

I heard that Criterion in the U.S. may make a run of replacement No4 military spec  barrels but I suspect they would be $200+ U.S.

If already having a nice day please disregard

Extensively & irrevocably sporterised.
No way to return to original condition.
Make the most of what my well be an excellent sporter.
I would replace that "L" flip rear sight with a good Singer micrometer though.

Yes the barrel was shortened. Just wondering if this gun was issued to him like this, it would have been the canadian armory that did the modificatiins. I bought a box of hornady 150gr bullets to try out. Don't know how the ol 2 groove rough barrel will do?

Criterion barrels are $300+ so if your barrel is still good make a nice sporter out of her and enjoy the .303 round. Still a rifle with a lot of life left in her.

As above. Plus you might want to replace the missing ejector screw (lh side of receiver). It will eject empty cases OK without it; but may not fully eject a live round should you need to.
If it was mine, I'd probably improve the fit and form of the wood where it's been chopped. Metal work all looks good.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Definitely not issued in that condition.

Thanks, i was wondering what the function of that screw was. I have a bag of misc parts that he kept in a tool box so maybe the ejector screw is in there. I know there is one of the micrometer peep sights and lots of other good extra parts.
Also the other day, i found a sporter style stock hidden in the garage. I'm going to look through his old pictures and see what he was holding for a rifle in Korea.
Thanks for the help,
Don

I have a Savage No$ MK1* with a 2 groove barrel and it is one of the most accurate rifles I own and that includes a mint condition Envoy.

I picked up some 150gr Speer Hot-Cor's and Hornady 303 brass so i have enough components for 70 rounds now. I plan on using IMR 4064, probably 41gr which should be a mild load. I exclusively use Varget now for my 308, so i have 5lbs of 4064 left over.
