We already did. What a mess. Funny thing is - we had all this warning. People were goin crazy - as they usually do when a "storm" is immenent.
Anyway - as luck would have it..the power went out in the north & east ends of town. (It was out for 5 hrs.) BEFORE the storm showed up. So-in their panic mode they all decended on the west end (where I live) to do all their "panic buying". All I wanted was a hand of bananas & some 2% milk...What an ordeal!! |

Just about at New Years Eve here our power was out for 63 hours! I I spent that night alone in my house with oil lanterns and candles but my beer stayed cold on the back porch outside. In the morning I fired up my 6500 watt generator in the shed and kept it running to keep the freezer and fridge running and the coffee machine too. Also kept a coup,e heaters running but I have propane as well so the fireplace was kept on low and I slept in that room with my pets on the fold out couch/bed. It was kind of fun actually but it just goes to show how much we as modern humans rely so much on electricity.

An egg?
I use a small pinch of salt. It grabs the grounds & sinks them to the bottom, you don't even taste it as its trapped in the grounds. Best trick I heard was to drop an ear of wheat in, it grabs the Fusel alcohols so the coffee never has that bitter aftertaste! |

I make Army coffie, you put the grounds in a clean sock, knot it, and throw it in the pot.
If you do not have a sock just use your girlfriend underwear. |

I live in the country side, off grid and run solar panels. I havn't had an electricity bill in ten years.
My house, garage and out buildings all have 120ac service from two 2000w inverters running on a battery bank of six Bosch 120Ahr ex-cell tower batteries (each weighs about 200lbs), which is good for about a week of use without a charge. You would never know the difference in service (better actually, constant 120v, no spikes or brown outs). This summer's project is to mount a wind generator up top of a TV antenna. Only if I need to use the welder or compressor in my garage do I fire up the generator to get 220v and sufficient amps for the grunt of the 3/4 horse motor. So power outages? wot's that?
