Technical note if it is a Fazakerly It shouldn't be a No4 Mk1* the *s were only made by Savage and Longbranch

Jan of '48! I thought Fazakerly had finished No4 mk1 production & switched over to No4 Mk2? IIRC they were still FTR'ing No4 Mk1 & No4 Mk1*s to no 1/2 & 1/3 ? "The changeover from Mk1 to Mk2
production is believed to have occurred at rifle number "PF
100000".
The "Star" may be a pair of facing "broad arrow" stamps denoting "Sold out of Service (to a civil ion like Fultons for example.) Not sure about the "S" though.

welcome , and congrats on stimulating an immediate conversation of interest ;
i have a number of FAZ rifles , predominate my no4 collection , my no4 mkI FAZ is dated 11/48 , it is a true mkI , i have had a few conversions to mkI/2 & mkI*/3 done there in that time period and after , so for the record they were still making the mkI late in 48 , oh - for info purposes PF54xxx , in 48 they made PF22xxx-68xxx , the switch in emphasis occurred a bit later , but i cannot say when without consulting my references and they are not at hand as i have grandkids occupying the room i need to get to at this moment - asleep , thank god , the contracts started around 301xxx and they were mk2s

The "star" is a sold out of service stamp, a pair of facing "Broad Arrows", this is good as a star as such would indicate rust in the barrel.
