The one downside to my place in the country has been the vermin and nuisance critters. My cat has been doing great with the mice and young rabbits but the gophers are really a pain and doing a lot of damage to the front yard. Upside is when I see one I just open the front door and do target practice right from the doorway. My old Remington Model 514 single shot does well on those buggers. It likes the American Eagle 38 gr copper jacketed hollow points, and those are devestating on the gophers.

Stuff the gopher's carcass back down the hole after he's dispatched. They will abandon the entire network of those tunnels

We used to stack them up and wait for the enevatable flock of magpies to come for lunch! Then we'd stack them up.

i like both ideas as well as your free target practice , i envy your open space , being 2 acres in the middle of town has its drawbacks - particularly when it looks like my back yard , you would not reall know till the cops show up , enjoy the new place my friend ,
