Not a Lee I'm afraid, but a Pattern 1853 Enfield, 2nd Model, dated 1857 with British Military Markings.

Very nice rifle!

Is it a Second pattern?  ...can't decide if I can see springs or just wood reflection.
Are you going to use it with paper cartridges?   Brett and a few others on BMF  been doing piles of work with them.   V good results too.

How's the bore Terry?

Nice! Reminds me of the old Bugs Bunny cartoon about the Hatfield's and McCoys!

.577" and the load was  2 1/2 drams of rifle powder.  (about 70 grs)
These days some use 3F and about 55 grs.

Rob still hit our 700 yard target with this light load.

Certainly a second model with barrel bands secured by springs and dated 1857. The bore is in reasonable shape, but I have no intention of firing it. In my collection the British Military Muzzle-loaders are respected wall-hangers, while I confine shooting activities to my 7.62mm Enfields and occasionally the .303s.

Terry,

I think we can respect these and still use them.  :-)

Mind, I know down there even finding powder can be difficult!

Not firing it, you are missing a fun time. Due to loading time you won't shoot as many shots, but they are fun to shoot. While I don't have the military rifles, I have a 54 Hawkin, 45 Kentucky, 36 Seneca, and a 28 ga shotgun.

I have the same rifle. We've always used FFF g w/ 60 - 65 gr load for a .577 Minie ball.
(I have a Lee mould & smelter. Always use pure lead)
