I've been looking for one of the tin box kits - was offered this one and bought it. Seems to have been unissued - oiler bottle is still wrapped in wax paper, rag is pristine and metal grip was never put on the pull-through rope.

Nice find, Congrats.
BTW the term for the roll of cleaning fabric was called "two be four" (2x4) referring to the size of the patches after they'd been torn off of the roll at the red lines.

It's not period correct, but I found a brass oil bottle care of one of the forum members here. The black Bakelite ones always seem to crack & leak, so if you're thinking of using it get brass, if you're collecting don't fill the bottle.

Dead Ouch!!! But, I think most of us have done something similar.

I bought an oiler from a site called Enfield-Stuff - run by David Gadbois - for my Savage years ago. Unfortunately, I've never found anything but stale air in any of my rifles.

Nope, it's "four b' two".

I'm not being pedantic, that is what we called it and call it still.  The official name was "flanelette".

"I'm not being pedantic"
Actually you are, by you it may have been called that, but by me it was called exactly what I said.

Face it not all of the U.K. speaks with exactly the same terminology & accents can vary.

Just to be equally pedantic the correct (as best as I can type it)  the accent would be "two bee furr"

Why can't you just admit that I, who's been using the stuff since the age of twelve inside and outside the British Army, might know what I am talking about.

In the UK, the nickname (used universally) for flannelette is and always has been "four by two".  To call it two by four is just plain wrong.
