As far as I can gather this is the latest owner of the Enfield name

BAE Systems  Land & Armaments  1525 Wilson Boulevard Suite 700 Arlington, VA 22209-2444  Phone: 703-312-6100

Tony can probarly conferm this (as I think he would have had the misfortune to have used the replacement Enfield to the FN SLR)

There are of course 'Noteable ' Manufactures in Kabul  but I think their best left to those who have a death wish  when it comes to fireing them !

Visit Australia's birthplace of modern manufacturing and see the
LITHGOW SMALL ARMS MUSEUM

Small Arms Museum

Situated in Methvern Street, Lithgow adjacent to the entrance of the ADI Factory

I spent about 6 hours looking through that place in January.  They have some of the most interesting Lee Enfield stuff you could imagine - stuff that I had never heard of - such as a No1 MkIII trial rifle with a synthetic stock made of Bakelite.

Fascinating place, Lithgow Small Arms Factory made a heap of things besides rifles over the years.

I think the address you have is right dave but I do know that Heckler and Koch have done 112 modifications to the original SA 80 to bring it up to working spec. I have had the dubious honour of handling one of the Toys R Us offerings and to be honest its an abortion. The magazine used to drop out at you walked, stocks used to break on impact when your leg bag hit the floor and its only suitable for a right hander. The ejection port can't be altered to allow a south paw to use it slightest hint of muck and it jammed.  I believe Heckler and Koch are a subsidiary of BAE but don't quote me on that.

Yes I agree, That was inappropriate behavior for any aged person. This is an international brotherhood of Enfield owners and we should respect each other accordingly. This site is for all of us to enjoy and exchange ideas, knowledge, fellowship. We should show the same responsiblities here as we would on the range with a loaded weapons.

Hi again Dave, thanks for the link to the Lithgow Museum.  I see they make a lot more things than rifles but I can't reload for a sewing machine so I will stick with my 42 Lithgow .303 Enfield, John

You guys would love the leeds armoury. All the weapons from the tower of london were moved north to a custom built armoury. Its got everything there from longbows to modern firearms. They even do jousting duelling and falconry exhibitions. Caernarvon Castle in N Wales has a belting exhibition of weapons even captured Japanese ww2 kit and a winchester presented by the us president  to Queen Lizzie.

Strangely enough we still have a couple of lithgow hand pieces round the place ,here ! 'Bout the only time I have anything to do with Shearig these days is when we do the Rams as these are still shorn with hand shears as apposed to the machine type hand pieces ! (it's the only time I can show a respectful talley ) THis is also about the only time I have anything to do with anything on the Farm! Tracey Really gets her nose out of joint as we still refer to any woman comming into the Shed & on to the Boards ,as being "Ducks on the Pond" which was the traditional warning to keep the language down ! There was a time when women were banned from entering the Sheds!

I hear you there Allan ! One thing we've always prided our selves is our hospitality! AS we only run about 2000 sheep at any one time on this part of the property we do our own shearing as it's too smaller number to get a team in ! We are classed as a Station, but a small one in the big scheme of things (when compared with Victoria River downs ,Commonweath hills ,Rawlina Pty Ltd ) But then again we own our land & it's not some faceless corperation with managers (some of which I've had lively "discussions" with over the years)
