Help me out guys-

I aquired several approximately 2cc 'tubs' of something marked 'Grease, Rifle', clear tub yellow lid, I believe its PlastiLube, I want to use it for an m14 type. Is it what I need, it smells right and looks right but is otherwise unmarked

IIRC those little pots of grease were marked for M1 (Garand) rifles. I guess it should be fine?

The only difference would be the roller on an M1a, it might need a little persuading to get down inside there.

The M1 Carbine doesnt have a roller, just a tab. The Garand is the same IIRC, the M14 has an actual roller wheel on the tab

I believe the grease is "Lubriplate", which is a yellowish-white lithium grease. It's what was issued for the M1 Garand and the M14. It works pretty well for a number of things, including bolt-action rifles. There's also a darker brown grease that shows up for use in the same rifles.
Bottom line, use grease, not oil on these rifles. I've has very good results with Ford wheel-bearing grease when the "regular" stuff wasn't available at the time.

I don't know what exactly it is either, but every gun show I go to round here there's always a bunch of them for sale in the little pots. If you need a few let me know & I'll see if I can score you some. I don't remember the price, as I wasn't looking for that item, but from memory it wasn't too bad.
