I really didn't want to, but as everything original on this was trashed way before I ever saw it I said "What the heck?" after I realized my eyes just don't work with "issue" irons any more.

As "the purists" elsewhere have already had their whack at me for what someone else did I went right ahead anyway.LOL

The mount is the S&K, the version with their own ring mounts & rings, there is a Weaver version also.
Scope is a Leupold, I was looking at a compact 2~8, but found this for a decent price & as its only 1/2" longer on went the 3~9X40.

Off to the range next to see how it zeroes & shoots, I've bore sighted but not yet live fired the scope & mount.

Close up of the mount showing the opposed grub screws that attach the rings & give windage adjustment to the mount.

Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)

That came out real nice.  Hope it shoots as good as it looks.
I have a feeling it's not your only Enfield.  Your reasoning is totally valid.  I put a nice new stock on my Garand for similar reasons, and I am very happy with it.  Enjoy it!

That's looking like a very nice rifle now Shamu. Got to be better than the  duffer it was with the knackered stock. Sounds like you got a good deal on the scope too, looks very good condition.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Came out looking good!  No need to convince us of the validity of redoing an all ready modified gun.

I am doing it now just to spite the Purists. Why don't we see this much animosity towards modification to Mausers? it seems like the Enfield Purists want every gun returned to military status or else they will put the whammy on you.

For the amateur gunsmith a project like this gives good satisfaction, and makes something that was previously headed for the junk pile into something decent to look at and very useful.

I personally seek out this type of gun as it builds skills when redoing it, and the probability of a complete loss is very low, and even if it occurs you're not out that much.  IE; there is very little you can do to make it worse than it was to start.

I consider this to be a SAVE! not some kind of abomination.

You done good! and you should be proud of your work. The gun looks nice.

Hi there for my money I think your rifle looks very good the bluing is very nice was the rifle glass beaded before bluing I have done a few that way it gives them a nice soft blue that covers a few imperfections, good work and a nice shooter.

A  problem you are in for is eye relief, most variables are very short on relief..........which makes life interesting and eyebrows and noses very sore.
The recoil of a 303 brings it all home very quicklyOuch

"was the rifle glass beaded before bluing"?
Sort of kindaThumbs Down It was a terrible off center disaster that made the poor old thing shoot 18" patterns with massive horizontal stringing at 25 yards! There's a thread somewhere on here showing the mess.

"A problem you are in for is eye relief"
I think I'm going to be fine, the 2~7 on my No4 has less eye relief by about 1/4" & I have no problems with that so I hope I'm GTG with the 3.7~4.2" claimed. We'll seeOuch

That looks really nice, Shamu. I don't think you'll have any problems with eye relief. I shot mine with a 3-9x40and then a 6.5-20x50 with no problems. I used Prvi 150gr sp and thought the recoil was mild. I just got a box of 180gr Prvi but haven't shot them yet.
