so I found this rifle for probably a short money (still working out a trade value). I have no earthly idea how it ended up looking that way. I'm thinking of stripping it from the stock and giving it a rattle can in OD or even flat black and giving the stock a job too. it'll make a decent truck gun and i won't be upset dragging it around hunting hogs.

Thoughts or concerns?

How is the bore? If it shoots well, it ought to make for a good inexpensive hunting rifle. Absolutely get rid of the silver paint!Dead

We're still in negotiations about it. I haven't seen the bore yet.

Can't tell from the pic is that bare metal or silver paint?
My only concerns would be:
1: Bedding, a lot of work is needed to get those synthetic stocks to bed properly.
2: Condition that can't be seen from the pic. Frequently "Bubba's Ingenuity" extends beyond the cosmetics. For example how many holes are drilled for that scope mount & how well?Sick

I'd want to see the bore before I made a decision. A worn out bore is going to cost you a lot to rebarrel, rebore, or develop an oversized cast bullet load.

Then again, a rebore to 35-303 shooting a 235 grain lead bullet would make a great hog gun.

I'd replace the .22 scope with something a little bigger and paint it Black. With a good Cerakote finish it would be a good shooter that you wouldn't have to worry about in the weather.

A proper Bubba scope install requires a couple of lag bolts. Or drywall screws
