Also, what is the distance from your aiming mark with the six o'clock hold up to the centre of the bull?

Yup, shooting high sounds about right. Remember, you have a battle rifle, it is sighted for Mk.VII ammunition. At 100 the bullet is still climbing on its arc out to a target at 300.

I do understand your question, fitting a taller front sight blade will fix it up for you. Exactly how tall a front sight depends on a number of variables. The ammunition that you use is the major factor. Many people leave the sights alone and tune their loads to bring things back onto POA.

There is a nifty formula for figuring it out. I wish that I could be of more help.

You have a very valid question that would get more attention if you started a new thread with a title asking the question.

The sights are all standard Savage sights. The front sight pin/base? has the square with the S stamped into it and +045. it shoots almost a foot high at a 100 yard target. I am using standard 180 grain Winchester Power Points Super X ammo. I have not raised the rear sight and used that peep hole sight. I have only used the sight in the down position. And thank you for the reply....DudleyClap

That’s your problem.  The Mk 1 rear sight in the down position is set for up to 400 yards as a battle apature with Mk VII Service ammunition.  It is also far too large in diameter for accurately zeroing the rifle.  Flip the sight up and set the elevation screw to the lowest position.  Using a 6:00 hold on the target at 100 yards, the hits will likely be a bit low with the front sight you have.

Yep my trick is raise the target sight, set it to "2" the lowest marked position, then come down 4 clicks.
This should be correct for Mk VII ball but it is close for 180 Gr commercial at those distances.
