Here's my new SMLE.

It's a 1912 Enfield MkIII.
Affected at the 2nd batallion of the Yorshire Light Infantry, weapon #180.
This batallion landed in Le Havre, France in beginning of August 1914 and participated at Le Catteau battle on august, 26th. This day, the batallion has been virtually annihilated by the german artillery.

This rifle has been found intouched in an attic but damaged by german shrapnels : scalped downside of the buttstock with a volatilized tip of butt plate, blasted outer band/sling swivel/upper front guard, slightly deformed trigger guard and some minor shrapnel impacts in the wood fore-end.
Fortunately, the volley sights are still present and the metal parts are not heavily rusted.
The rifle works perfectly and the barrel grooves are very sharp. After all this SMLE was only 2 years old when it has been "lost" and I suppose that it didn't fire since 1914 Tongue
Of course, the rifle is strictly matching.

Some (bad) pictures taken by the seller.

Here, you can see some scratches caused by shrapnels on the wood.

The correct type 2 converted to type 3 magazine.

Affected on june 1912 to the 2nd batallion.

Replacement parts to restore this rifle have been ordered at BRP Guns Co in USA.
Just need to find an upper front handguard.

Francois
