Once again I ask the wise sages on the forum for help. I want to remove a front site from a No4 Mk1. The "ear" part is easy with just a screw. The "post" band (probably the wrong term) I'm guessing is pressed on using those lugs as guides? Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

It's pinned. You have to drift the pin out first. Hang on a sec gotta get you a picture

See the little hole behind the screw access hole?
There's a pin in that hole. Knock it out and the tap the sight off the lugs ... |

The sight might need to be tapped off but it will come off after the pin is removed.

I usually use an open ended wrench just big enough to clear the barrel shoulder. Rest it in place, hold the other end then tap it as close to the head as you dare! It makes the blow in line, not offset so it is far more efficient & doesn't run as big a risk of scarring up the barrel finish.

Thank you so much! Can I assume the pin, when shouldering the rifle, would be punched out left to right?

I don't remember it being tapered? So either should work.

It's a straight pin, no taper.

Well, site off! As always with me, way bigger job than anticipated. I've never had alot of luck driving pins out. Accordingly, two bent drifts later I decided to drill the pin out. Four drill bits later, got it off! Man, that steel was way tougher than I thought. I wanted that front site for my new project. Project Cammo Bush Buster. Bobbing off 4" of a parts No4, then I'll have to work the barrel to about .58" so the site band slips on. I'll leave about an inch of barrel in front of the site, kinda scout style.

Too late Goosic! The site I took off was from another rifle I had worked on twenty years ago. I bobbed that barrel but just left the site off, relying on a scope. It was just about 4" of barrel with the site. Also, I don't have a digital camera and I don't think my Kodak will send over the internet!
