That sounds like a great getaway! I need to get my license soon so I can start getting a line in the water. Still getting unpacked and caught up on mowing at the moment though.

What fish are you going for? In Manitoba, the season is closed and not open until May Long Weekend. Except for stocked trout lakes.

Here is BC our season opens March 30th. That's when license renewals can be had. It's the same date for our hunting licenses as well.

I'm headed up to the cabin on fri with my posse. Gotta get the new "lay of the land" after all these storms, & bear is open. So - scout out where the new tree stands will go, & set up for a bear stand.(& hope the black flies don't start to biting!)

our primary target is walley - its the governors oppener on sarturday so green lake in spicer [west central of state] will be the media center , im headed north to Cass Lake , we often get into crappie the day before - thats been open a bit longer ,

this is one of the minnesota state holidays - it and deer opener ,

there's usually 20-30 of us at the resort , depends on the year , we share cooking and fish cleaning , me friends and i do the saturday night fish fry , we always have plenty for that and generally a full limit to take home on monday , we all have fun no matter the weather , im most always cold but that's what gettin old does to you ,

we are in real nice cabins , the resort has a sheltered marina for the boats , we fish 2-3 in a boat depending on who got you into our group , back in the old days before i started coming they used to get real rowdy but not so much any more , we have our moments but we tend to stay at the resort rather than going to the old haunts , i suspect our group will be down this year what with graduations and a deployment , but we shall see ,

Guess Im lucky down here, we dont have a specific fishing season , we fish year round, but we do have certain times of the year that certain species will bite , Lately I have been trying to catch the Choupic (Grenel , cypress trout , Bowfin) that are in my pond.....  I was using a frog type lure, they hit it but wont keep it, I went to just worms and a bobber, they straightened the hook out, so I bought stronger hooks, and some stink bait... they dont seem to care for the stink bait at all !!
I need to get them out the pond so the other fish will have a chance !!!

Honkeytonk, here in BC the wood tick issue is supposed to be the worse in a long time. I take precautions for myself and my dog as well.

Canuck. I have spent a lot of time over the last 58 yrs mooching around in the bush on army bases (army brat), farming in the summers with family and hunting. I could count on two hands the amount of ticks I've picked up in 56 years. In the last two, maybe 20. I do have a secret weapon. Remember the original Muskol in the squirt bottle? 99% Deet? It would take the finish of your rifle? I scored three bottles from an old dude down the street! Maybe a third eye, but no ticks or mosquitoes!

Oh man I will be on the lookout for that old 99% DEET! The best I can find is 40%. A third eye would be handy at times!

Yup. Three squirt bottles with that old dude with the straw hat, beard and glasses on the label! Awesome stuff! I usually cut it with a liquid 20% Deet in a pump bottle. I'm guessing it comes out in the 70-80% Deet range. Seriously, you can shower, and even the next day, not a bug will come close to you.

I was helping clean out the supply room when I was stationed in Germany, The Supply Sgt. had me dispose of 4 cases of the spray repelant , which didnt spray , and 5 cases of the squirt bottles , didnt know what I really had at the time... since the bugs wwere not bad in Germany ... but I sent 5 bottles home to my childhood Buddy that I used to hunt fish and camp out with !!!   He sent a very urgent letter back to me , telling me to send all of that bug juice to him I could !!!!  He said it worked better than anything we ever used in south Louisiana !!!   unfortunately I did dispose of it already !!!  Damn shame !!!!   LOL!!!   but when I got stationed back state side , I would grab any I could get my hands on and make sure it got into Tobys hands !!  LOL!! Wish I could have found a few cases like I did with the LSA oil !!!!

Canuck. Check garage sales. I don't go, but I've got my mother-in-law on the prowl. If it's been banned, it's gotta work!! Honestly though. I used it up moose hunting years ago. Other guys had to reapply Deep Woods Off!! Every twenty minutes the mosquitoes were so bad! Not me! When I got back to camp, the hard shiny finish on my Ruger No1 was completely gone down to the wood!
