I was in Ontario this past week. For the first time ever, I couldn’t get in to see my Dad. He was snowed in, about a foot of very wet snow that he couldn’t even drive the ATV thru, and the blower on the tractor just loaded up, took him all morning to clear 1/4 mile of road and he still had another 4 miles to go. I had planned on shooting his No. 4(T) and Martini Henry this weekend.   And I had planned my trip to get there before the $&#@*$#*@ black flies were out, I didn’t expect a snow storm. Just imagine what it would be like if we didn’t have global warming!

Meanwhile, back in the South East, I spent a pleasant day today at the Talladega CMP Marksmanship Park with my No. 4 Mk I*/3 and No. 4 Mk 2 in 7.62. Both rifles shoot superbly. A practice Vintage Military Rifle Match score of 289-7x (300 possible) with the .303, despite a nice 10 mph cross wind. The 7.62 also shooting very good, cleaning the 300 yd SR target, the first three shots were less than one inch apart at 300 yds.   I’m thinking it’s a good candidate for a Sniper conversion.

Your day at the range sounds like heaven on earth! Too bad about your dad being snowed in but it is Ontario after all. I’ll be in Trenton Ontario from May 2-4 at the Kiwanis Walleye Derby then in Ottawa until May 8. I hope the weather cooperates but I’ll be prepared for anything weather wise.

Britrifles:

Ontario is a fair chunk of real estate. (You can put Texas into it more than 3X).
So what far-flung part of this sub-sovereign, deeply indebted province is your dad holed-up in?

A Sq: Just so ya know...Ontario is the most indebted, sub-sovereign state in the entire world. (& That is NOT an exaggeration - its fact! )
To make matters worse, all of this indebtedness has come at the hands of successive Liberal governments. And it continues with this one at an unbelieveable pace!

I do firmly believe that BANKRUPTCY is the only way this province can survive.

I grew up in Cornwall, graduated from military college in Kingston. Mom and Dad retired to our cottage north of Kingston.   I spent 3 years at CFB Trenton (1985 to 1988) in the Air Force. Ontario, and Canada for that matter, is not was it once was. The slow and incremental steps toward socialism has taken its toll. Most Canadians don’t even realize what has happened.

I need to figure out how to bring the rest of my Dads rifles down here.

Britrifles:
I hear you.
I don't like to say things that link me to racism, but the steady creep toward socialism - gov't being all things to all people - seems to have been spurred by the unbelievable rise in "refugee immigrants".
They can't cope with western ways - so lets make it easier for them..& while we're at it, we'll do things THEIR way.
Late great Canada..what a shame. It was ours to lose. Thank you Liberals

Hoadie. This "Alt Left" Liberal party in Canada is a new thing. Judging by the "Young Liberal" conference out east this past weekend, their demands for the next election platform is even making Trudeau cringe. Way, way left of socialist. Hold fast! In one election and the stroke of a pen the Conservatives can right what is wrong.

woaw - i am sorry to hear this - "..I do firmly believe that BANKRUPTCY is the only way this province can survive.  ..."

i feel this to be where so many of us are headed these days , what exactly is it abut socialism that attracts folks ? it has repeated itself in every case , every time it is tried and in the end socialism is a throwback to medieval times where the ruling class has all the control and everyone else is in serfdom to their needs , why do people want to put themselves in the control of the ruling government class ? i just don't get it ,

im not pretending its not going on here - it is what we fight back against every day - hence our second amendment rights , we do not want to relive that part of history

One of the Nordic countries has total socialism.(Denmark?)
It also has the happiest - most content people - on the planet.
They also have the highest personal tax rate in the world.
They have a"cradle to grave" arrangement, whereby everything for you is provided by the gov't.(Health care, education etc.) Everything is paid by the high taxes.
Problem is - you can't start that kind of "utopian" exsistence, when your already BILLIONS in debt!
For the first time in Canadian history, the national debt has topped a TRILLION $$! We pay interest on that money..

Doesn't sound like much compared to other countries like the U.S....but most American states have a larger population that the entire country of Canada.
Put that into perspective, and you get a better picture of just how dire the Canadian financial picture really is.
The Conservatives can't fix this mess..the money has to come from somewhere..& right now I can't see where that money is going to come from. (I tried to plant money trees in the garden - but they never took hold.)

Unfortunatley, the Conservatives don't have a magic wand to correct this stuff. (If they did, I'd ask them to "alakapoof! the Liberals)

Ya know..Canada fought two damn the cost, balls to the wall, world wars..& both times finished with a balanced budget. Afterwards, the war debt was paid off, as well.

Something has to give.(& it wont be me!! cuz I got nothing left to give!! )
