Does anyone have an Isaphor in .308 ( 762 x 51 ) ? I've always heard that the Lee Enfield wasn't that strong of an action with a rear locking bolt. Did they do anything different to the Isaphor .308 to accommodate the higher pressures ?

I believe the metal was heat treated a little differently.

The steel used was a higher grade for these arms, Billy. In this case, EN steel, along with more advanced heat treatment techniques as Shamu says.

I've heard varying opinions on the grade of steel. Some say yes some say no.

Where they not officially 7,62 NATO and not .308 winchester? I know the L39's and L42's are 7,62 NATO. There is a difference in the load and velocity of the two rounds; the NATO is a lighter load.
For reloading purposes; I buy .308 components, but load to NATO velocity in my L39A1. I assume they same would be advisable for the Ishapore.

Mine shoots nicely with nato ball, mx80 federal, going to try some
pri vi mx 80 when I get the chance, also load on the safe side, a 150 grain bullet at 2700 is pretty serious load. to my understanding thats a nato duplicate. even though the ishy is heavyer then the no1 303 the 7.62&51 seems a little sharper recoil.higher pressure cartridge. """ |

i once had a 2A and a 2A1 , both were fine rifles in the 762 and neither ever gave me any worry , they would not have been widely issued had there been an issue as you allude to , i also had the 303 and 410 versions of indian mfgr , all were excellent rifles , nothing to worry about in these ,
