My LE's are my favourite handling rifles in spite of everything else I have.

We had a visitor from England this summer on our farm...27 year old young man...bright guy.  Before he left he was driving tractor like an old hand...skilled.

He had never shot a firearm before, and wanted to in the worst way.  I went over firearm safety and then worked him through about a dozen rifles/calibres...everything from .223 to .375 H&H.  We were shooting steel at 100 yards.  And by the time we were into the .30 cal's and larger he was hitting every single time on an 18" plate, sitting position.

When we were done I said he could shoot any of them as much as he liked.  He kept going back to the LE No. 4 loaded with 150 grain Hornady's.  The last ten shots he took were off hand...the last three of which were at a 4" plate...of which he connected 2 times...at 100 yards.

It was really funny.  Every time he put the Enfield down to consider shooting another he eventually came back to it.  It was like love at first sight.  And for someone who had never shot before he was quick to point out how well it handled, how it was balanced, how nice the action and trigger were, etc. (all of which I seconded myself).  In fact, I'd say for a while he forgot all about my daughter standing next to him.  And I thought to myself, yeah, this man might make a worthy son-in-law! LOL

I have always thought that for a beginner shooter you can't find a more comfortable rifle than an Enfield. They do handle nicely and if they fit a person well they practically aim themselves.

So pleased you gave this lad a chance to fire these rifles Craig!

I can see why he liked the old Lee so much, but it is fantastic that he cottoned on so quickly and had the feel to come to this conclusion himself!  A very smart lad.

My youngest son is a shooter of a No 1 Mk III. My older son likes a Ross for occasionally use.

Always looking for military manuals, Dodge M37 items, books on Berlin Germany, old atlases ( before 1946) , military maps of Scotland. English and Canadian gun parts.

Hopefully when he's back in England he will think about taking up the sport, and it's worth it, even with all the paperwork!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!
