will be fitting a dp to a 1916 no 1. I cant remember
fore stock on fist? or butt stock first?Thanks........

Removal is fore end first then butt stock. Because of the square end of the butt stock bolt sits in a small metal lock plate that can damage the fore end if twisted while it's in place. 
So for refitting; butt on first then fore end.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

thats critical - you can destroy a butstock with a single twist , good luck on your project , do post photos ,
