I will preface this by stating that,I am not looking to sell it,I spent too many decades trying to find one. I was looking at my rifle and a thought popped up. Mine was one of the last ones made in 1947. One of 179,000+ produced from Fazackerley. Are these rifles considered rare? I read that between the BSA and Fazackerley plant only 225,000+ No5 Mk1 rifles were made. The other thought that came up was, are these worth alot? I paid $400.00 for mine
Just curious... |

I paid $250 Cdn for mine(He asked for $225). That was about 10 yrs ago, & there is no way on God's green earth I could repeat that deal.
Now that I have a proper sling & pointy bit, I suspect its worth somewhere in the neighbourhood of $900 - $950 Cdn. (Then again - prices vary on geographical location) |

"Rare" is relative. Compared to the millions of No4's yes its rare.
$400.oo nowadays is a steal. They've gone up spectacularly in the last few years, $650~800 for a minty all-matching one is about right today. & I've seen beaters that look like they were stored in the La Brea tar pits go for $500.oo |

I also bought a #5 about 15 years ago for $250. Sold it two years later for $300. Thought I did OK! I just purchased another numbers matching #5. Great shape, in my opinion, but it has been drilled and tapped. I paid $600. He was asking $700. I again thought I did ok.

Nice #5 examples are getting tougher to find every year for whatever reasons. Prices keep rising as well. I own 3 with bayonets and slings. New reproduction wood parts are coming down the pipe line and soon. I mention this thinking that those barreled actions waiting for wood parts will have a chance to be complete again so maybe prices will stabilize somewhat? Hard to say.......

I'm curious as to why these aren't bringing in a premium.

the premium as i see it is that they saw little use and are generally in far better condition than those that went to secondary users before coming to us collectors , mine is mint , my 1945 BSA was not so , i kninda miss it in the big picture but ive always tried to stay a little leaner in my collection since the years of having way too many , i still have one of each that ive found , there are a few i dont have i want ,

Like I had stated earlier, just curious. I mean think about it, there's only 225,000 plus No5 Mk1 real rifles that were made. That to me is definitely considered a very limited run of one item and only a handful of us own them now. 85,000+ BSA rifles,179,000+ Fazackerley. Based off of those numbers alone, you'd assume these little guys should fetch prices near to a No4 T rifle.

Give it time Goosic, give it time.
Right now - as I see it - the main market driver is the U.S. Once they begin to turn their attention from the AR-15, the hunt for more "storied" firearms will ignite in ernest. Re: the rarity, you forgot to factor in the attritional loss of these rifles over time. Some were lost to combat situations, accidents, theft etc. So the numbers will be considerably less right now - and decreasing - making them more valued all the time. |

we are not turning our attention from anything here - there is that same niosy bunch that always get the press by bbeing "civilay disobediant and boistrous about their feelings" there are a lot of us that are quietly watching the spectacle and resolved not to let them controle our lives ,
our media says it speaks for all of us - they dont , they dont speak for very many of us - they are out of touch elitists - they did not control our last election and neither did the russians ,

Who said anything about the 2nd amendment..or a repeal issue?
Please don't read stuff that isn't there. Right now the hottest selling rifle in the U.S seems to be the AR -15(That's all you hear about these days) ..but EVERYTHING has a cycle. Wether its the newest toy, a new dance, hottest nite club..everything has a peak point. Once AR -15 (& it's variants) hit the "saturation point", people will go back to looking for the "unique" & collectible pieces. The old stuff becomes "new " again. That's my story & I'm sticking to it! |

It will probably be like the last time when BHO tried to bring on a new gun violence plan, gun sales spiked & spiked again for the last several months of his presidency.
As I told a liberal Australian friend, who now lives in the U.S.: "Have you noticed an absence of 'roos, wallabys, koalas & blue gum trees? That's because you're in America, not Australia. Its a totally different social environment here. If they tried a wholesale Aussie style enforced buy back here they'd start a second civil war & tens of thousands would die from gunshot wounds." |

My humble thoughts. All nations, all civilizations, since the beginning of mankind, have been built on violence. All nations, all civilizations, since the beginning of mankind, have defended their beliefs with violence. There is the Victor, and the vanquished. Do you know why this is still true today? No matter what the liberals or snowflakes think, it's in our DNA. Mankind is wired for violence. Would you expect a lion to stop eating gazelles in favour for grass? As soon as the left gets their head out of their asses and realizes this, and begins to work with the people that already know this, then mankind can make protect the people worth protecting. I apologise for the "political" rant, but I felt this thread had been going there. Thank you.
