The "no exports" is actually an Obama thing. Google "ITAR" for the gory details. ITAR was originally written to stop export of high tech proprietary US military equipment to potential enemies (Things like gen3 Night vision with the micro-channel plate), but it was "Reinterpreted" to include darn near everything arms related.

The importation of certain firearms parts including reloading components from the USA is covered by US export laws.  Way too much to go into here.  Just recognize that if you are caught by US authorities taking it out of the country it may be a felony depending on the item.   Commit a felony and you are likely never getting in again.  You need a Registered Exporter who will charge a fee.  Here is an excellent link that will help decide what is okay and what is not.  If not sure, phone them.  They are the experts.  Besides the link I know of two others, Prophet River and IRun Guns.

http://www.borderview.com/services/for-individuals/small-parts-exemption-service/

Ellwoods Epps Sporting Goods has a decent stock of LE parts as does TradeEX.   Epps are also gunsmiths with access to parts networks.  Marstar also has some parts including stripped actions.    Jason Spencer at GunCo in Ottawa may be able to find parts that the others do not have.   He secured a trigger sear for me for an old 22lr semi that hasn't been made since the 1950's.  He is an old world gunsmith who may be a bit brusque in his manner but he knows his stuff.  He is pretty busy and hates wasting time.  On occasion Joe Salter (Canadian Site) has accessories.  I once saw a complete barrelled action for sale on that sight.  I should have bought it but alas hindsight is always clearer than foresight.  My friend bought a C7 .22lr Long Branch LE from him.  He sold it again but not to me.  We don't talk about that rifle Cry

Yes Canadian law will allow the import of non-proscribed (explosive etc) ammunition to a maximum of 5000 rounds if you have a PAL.  It is illegal under US law to export ammunition from the USA.  Being in simple possession while in the USA without meeting certain conditions and/or without the proper license/permits can land you in deep trouble.  You are a ‘non-resident alien’ until you have legal residency.  No issue for a US citizen regardless of your residency.  My brother worked in the US for several years and became a member of a shooting club, purchased a Glock and another handgun.  He was transferred to the UK for a year.  He had to re-qualify as a "resident" when he returned.  He had already sold his guns but if he hadn't he could not have legally taken possession of them for 90 days.  You don't want to run afoul of the US authorities.  They will not cut you any slack.

BTW the "non-resident alien"  provision was enacted in 2003 under the administration of G.W. Bush.

"I use a place in Niagara Falls, NY. He charges $6 Cdn for an envelope, & $42.CDN for pallets.
You can legally import small arms ammo, as well - legally"

Be wary of magazines and charger clips. There are newly made ones that don't function well. I usually get used ones. If a supplier is selling shinny  new ones beware.

This is a link from a friend of mines company. I really don't want to know how many thousands of dollars that I've spent with him buying parts, etc.
If nothing else enjoy the parts diagrams.

As far as shipping across borders for many years a lot of US folks want to buy parts from Marstar (Canadian company) now seems like things are banned both ways.

Its an Obama thing I'm afraid.

There was a thing called I.T.A.R. It was designed to prevent "secret" U.S. technology (like the 3rd gen NV "Micro Channel Plate") from being exported so It could be reverse engineered lowering the U.S. lead in technology. Quite reasonable.

Then it was "re-interpreted" to ban just about anything going just about  anywhere. Not so reasonable at all.
