Hi all

I've had a Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk III* from 1941 for about 17 years.  I got it when I was only 10 and as you'd expect, a 10 year old doesn't know how too look after antiques very well.  I broke the wood off the fore part of the top of the barrel, as in the picture below.

I've recently dug the rifle out of storage I'd like to fix it.  I'd be grateful for some suggestions how to go about this.  Firstly, what wood is the stock made of?  I could try and recreate the piece of wood myself. Is there a special way of removing the barrel ring? Secondly, I've only seen full stock sets on the internet, does anyone have a spare of just the fore-top piece I could buy?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try this website. https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/ltc-default.asp

I have bought a set of screws, a magazine and 5 clips from them. All came within 3 days of shipping and were great. They should have what you need!

The forestock is late WW2, judging by the tie strap at the rear. Do not know what the wood is; could be walnut or beech (or teak? if Indian made stock)

Which band do you mean? The one over the wood, or the one around the barrel?

There are two parts to the top handguards.

Ouch, good luck with that.
Its correct name is the "upper handguard" or "front handguard" Unfortunately they're one of the scarcer parts to find. They are out there but many of them are missing the "fingers" at the rear where they go round the rear-sight. I just found one on e-bay, but they get expensive ($60~75) because of the scarcity. I have one spare, but its missing the fingers, so I'm not sure if that's going to do it for you..

The band is removed by unscrewing the cross bolt holding the sling swivel at the bottom on. If the band is hinged a the top simply open the hinge & lift off. If there's no hinge carefully prize the bottom open & slide off to the front.
