Howdy Folks, I have 3 of these RFI #1 Mk3 rifles, which I bought from SOG awhile back, they sold them as parts rifles, being incomplete, usually missing some wood, and having the firing pins broken off. I do not like to make project rifles out of good working Enfields, but these either need restoration, or could be made into project rifles. Recently I have see a heavy barreled #1, with a target stock, cheekpiece etc. and it was one dandy looking rifle, so maybe... Any advice on what can be made from a #1 Mk3 ?

I have restored them in the past. you would be amazed what you could do with a would be parts gun with a little work they can be returned into service, worst case a complete wall hanger. I have used them for spare parts never know when you get one in that may need a small part or two.
I once restored a WW One vintage BSA that I picked up from a gun show that looked like she was ready to be melted for scrape. Now she is one of my best shooters.
Good luck

Cookie you seen them on the table when you were down here for Memorial Day...

I believe you guys are absolutely correct, I think I can get these back to a fine looking original condition. I would also like to make them into shooters as well, however the headspace is a problem on these, hence them being "parts rifles".
What are the options in correcting headspace on these besides rebarreling? O yes, I checked headspace with a standard headspace gauge, not a milspec.
Cheers,

Head space Gauges will cost you in the range of about $25.00 a peice for each gauge. But is a lot cheaper than an Eye. --- Have not found one of them yet on any of my supplyers sights.... LOL!! But you can buy several diferent size bolt heads and try each. till they work out with the proper gauge... an when finished you sell the extra parts and Head space gauges when finished......talk to use Buddy...there are a lot of people on here that redo these Rifles...
The No#1 MK III rifles Bolt Heads are not No# like the Newer ones but there are slight to Large size differences... so a few Heads will help out.....
Hope this helps and I sure wish I would have got a batch of them... Under $70.00 would have been an OK deal under that would have been even better!.

You can change out the bolt faces to allow for headspace.

I’m looking forward to seeing your finished project. You will feel a sense of accomplishment when putting a piece of history back into service, rather the butchering her up. It is senseless to destroy a rifle that CAN NEVER be replaced. A rusted non functioning Enfield is still far better then a cut up version Bubbarized shooter. |

THanks for talkin me through that, and bringing me to my senses. I am happy to hear there are different length bolt heads, I did'nt realize they were available for the #1 Mk3.
Well all I have to do now is order some bolt heads, some nice looking wood, and given the good condition of the bores on these rifles, which I hate to admit, I purchased for.. 3 Fer $100, I should have not only some good looking guns, but nice shooters as well.
Thanks again

Not to start or cause any hate and discontent but I thought you had a couple of Golden State Arms rifles that are sporterized Lee Enfields.

3 for $100 !!!!!! You Little thief!!!! Man I would go fer a 3 fer deal like that in a heart beat!!!!! .$33.33 a Rifle ... You cant go wrong at all with fixing them up and breathing the proper life back into them old war Horses...
Now if you don know yet.. Go to numrich arms and log in and get you a pass word and put them in your favorites and start buying your parts to refurbish your great find.
Numrich has some nice stocks to choose from I have a box out in my Shop that I hoard no#1 MK 3 stocks and upper hand gaurds in. and I keep my eye open for deals also. I could of got me some No#4 complete stock sets last month for $20.00 a peice but all ready have 2 sets on hand for a possible refurb. one day some one will dump some fixer ups on the market fer chicken feed and if I'm lucky I will snatch them up.......
Numrich also has a very fast responce and send time... I usually get my parts in as few as 3 days...unless they are out. if they are out you will know when it dont come in with in a week.

Returning them to original is going to be the easiest thing to do, also the most cost effective.. Im putting a pic link here so you can take a look at em. <a href="http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/cc243/thezygoat/?action=view¤t=DSCF0094.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc243/thezygoat/DSCF0094.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>I hope that works..
the center one is a GRI.. 1942
the bottom one is a 1965 with a "P" as one of the only identifying marks.
The top one is an RFI 1952
Took a look at the bores and the are excellent, inspite of the rought exterior.
I have a #4 action, that was heavily bubbized, and the barrel is junk, so I will do my best to reproduce an Enfield heavy barreld target rifle from the receiver. They did infact make these rifles, using parker hale parts/and others... So, I will be looking for those hard to find pieces..

Yep they look better than I thought, and I do have the bolts for the other two, plus the hardware for the center one. It looks like a little wood and some firing pins, and some bolt heads, and a little TLC, and they should be great!
