Hi all,
I'm new to Enfield rifles. I got a 1918 SHLE III* from my grandfather. I can't find the serial number on it. Can someone tell me where I could find it. Thanks

The serial number should be on the right front of the receiver, readily visible.

Yup! J 2703 The letter is part of the number, they go form A 0001 to A 9999, then B 0001 to B 9999 & then C & so on..

should be on both the receiver and the barrel at that location , should be on the back of the bolt handle , should be on the back of the ladder sight , should be on the front of the bayonet boss , might also be on the magazine box , could be on the stock as well ,
the first three are key , after that we are looking to originality of the assembly , |

YES!
A Short Magazine Lee Enfield is exactly the same as a Short Lee Enfield, its just the way different factories marked them. The model No & Mark Mk plus the * denotes the version better once it was established as the "new" system of nomenclature. Many models & marks comprised the Short Lee Enfield tribe. |
