I recently acquired this Enfield Rifle and know nothing about it.  On the side of it near the bolt it says No. 4 Long Branch 1942.  On the underside of the bolt it says N.67 MKII.  On the band of steel between the buttstock and the forstock it says 15L5462 FTR.  Where the reciever meets the barrel on the reciever it has a sideways crown and the word England.  And on the barrel, by the reciever, it has 42 and what appears to be a V with three letters around it.  If anyone can tell me anything about it I'd greatly appreciate it.http://s531.photobucket.com/albums/dd358/chrisabpics/.  I think this will lead you to the pictures of it.  If not let me know.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth making it look like the majority of enfields with the full length wood stock or to just keep it like it is and put a scope on it and use it for hunting occasionally.  I'm wondering it it came like that with that stock or if someone modified it.  I'll probably end up scoping it.  Around here we can get ahold of some farmers that are having trouble with wood chucks and go shoot them for him.  Sure it may be a little bit big for that but I think it would be a ball.  Besides it gets you good at hitting a small target at a great distance.

after being sporterised most guys scope it. the mounts are easy to come by

I must add im not keen on lawrance but hes the only SERIOUS military dealer around these parts if not NSW Australia.

my gun guy (here in Unanderra) offers me around 5 to 1 smle's

(5 sporterised 1 original) i always go for original but in the last meeting with him  I had a savage stamped  U.S Property no 4 (sporterised) or the 1916 Lithgow offered and im tossing up if i shopuld go ahead with the savage too, ive got the Lithgow on layby waiting for PTA----> which in a few months will only be a few days to Aquire a rifle instead of the 4-6 week bull  Censored    mission!  woooohooo!
anyways i gather the woodchucks you speak of are referred to as Beavers? mate nothins to small to hit with the 303. ive hit rabbits even sparrows and the end result is ya felt recoil,ya smelt burnin powder (everyone smells the empy case sfter ejecting dont they?)  Embarrassedand somethins not breathin = good.

The woodchucks are herbavores that are about the size and shape of a beaver but without the tail.  I think it would be a blast.
I'm going to take the gun in tomorrow and have it checked out for safety.  Make sure I can shoot it.  I checked it out pretty good but I'd feel better having a professional tell me.
I'll try and get some ammo while I'm there too.  Maybe I can get to shoot it this weekend.
I do like that first scope mount.  It looks like a nice one.
