he!!o all:
New member, lurked here for a long time, joined today.
I have 6 Enfields. no4's and no,1, one is  still unfired, 1955(F) in a mummy wrap.
All bought back in the day,1985-1989. The golden age of surplus firearms.

So to my question, I read Shamu's very thorough discussion of surplus ammo.

In that time(1988) I had bought in cans' surplus British ammo .303. from Century Int.

250 rds of MG ammo in cloth belt 1945 VIII8z and
250 rds of VII(C) in bandoliers 1950. B/C ammo.
150 rds or PPU 8z 1985

I have shot some, occasional hang fire with the 1945 ammo. Yielding military groups
but, not target groups.

Have any members here shot this ammo before, or are these "bore killers" as some say?
I'm more confused now than before!
will I damage my rifles? I can clean the corrosive residue, but I'm I killing my rifles.
What say you!

I'd pull one bullet from the belted 8z & examine the rear of the projectile. If it has a rebated boat tail with a reduced front diameter (kind of a hybrid flat base boat tail) I'd avoid firing that as it was the "bore wrecker". You could pull all the bullets & replace them with 150 Gr commercial ones to salvage the bigger potion of it.

I've fired the PPU 8z & its a conventional bullet so no problem, but clean for corrosive.
The Mk 7 is standard ball so no problem.

PitBull, spawn of Rottie!
