The Weaver TO-1 Tip-off scope rail will fit both the No.1 and the No.4 rifle.

It attaches to the rifle by drilling and tapping two holes in the receiver ring and two holes in the receiver bridge. The two rifles have slightly different dimensions. To make it a universal fit between the two, a small shim is included in the kit for use on Mk.III, fitting between the receiver bridge and rail to make up the difference in dimensions.

I am hoping to win a rail currently on auction. The packaging is old and has been opened, it does have the mounting screws but it is missing the shim. I can easily make a shim myself to fit, but am interested in finding out the thickness of the original Weaver shim.

If you have this set up, would you be so kind as to pull out the calipers measure the thickness of the shim for me, please?

I just took one off a #4 and there was no shim. Just the mount and 4 screws, that's it. The rear screws are much shorter than the front screws which is different than the screws in the picture you provided.

That would be correct, no shim on a No.4. The shim is for use when fitting the rail to a smle Mk.III.
