Do you know why the English don't build wristwatches? It's because they can't figure out how to make them leak oil!
No, really! Look in any English built motor parts books and you will find actual part numbers for each and every leak. Be sure to order only proper English made oil leaks, not the crappy Chinese ones. And while you are at it, it's always a good idea to purchase a spare authentic Lucas smoke refill kit for the "just in case" moments when your wiring harness springs it's own leak.

It's not all bad. You know, if Lucas made guns, then wars wouldn't start either.

Thanks for that interesting topic Ozzlefinch. it is of particumar interest to me because I need to check the trigger pull on my Lithgow No2mkIV* (.22 trainer). The pull is a bit rough when compared to my No4 and my No8's. It shoots quite well but a silky tiger feel will definitely make a difference.
India does have some good engineers, but it's general labour force would not have the incentives or habit of working to the quality we are used to in Europe and America. They are versatile though;I worked with many indian mechanics and engineers in the Middle East. I could get anything made, really quickly from just a sketch. I needed a tool for pulling cylinder liners out of a Rolls Royce V8 engine block. Had it within 24 hours. A friend was touring India on a 350cc Bullet and broke the piston while in a village in the middle of nowhere. A local guy appeared helped him remove the engine, strapped it to his bicycle and pedaled off; came back 7 hours later with it rebuilt and fitted it on the side of the road. Thats service you won't find easily in Europe!

Well, what can I say.
I once had a 650 Triumph ThunderBird, had it about 95% completely restored. I also had a lot of parts from a 650 Bonneville, preunit too. Also, at the same time, I had a 750 Triumph Trident, 1974, just before the new improved canted cylinders come about. A 850 Norton Interstate Commando, at about 95 it would not go 150 miles on a six gallon tank of fuel. I absolutely loved them Brit Bikes, as stated, each one disasembled and refit to specs and upgrades. I never had any electrical problems with any of them and the Pre-Units was the only ones that leaked oil. I hauled theose British bikes to Northern Cali. and come home with fourty five hundred bucks in Mine Wallett, Bought a 1976 Harley FLH Electra-Glide, had all the bells an whistles for a motorciucle of its age, that was in 1990, when I rolled it out of the guys garage, it had 1476 miles on it, When I sold it, to rebuild Mine house, it had almost sixty thousand on it, one complete bottom end rebuild and two tops. bored .020 over, 9.5 to 1 Wisco Pistons and an Andrews BH cam with a S&S Super E carb, that baby would absolutely fly. Tallest sprocketing and gearing available, 0 was`nt even getting into the power range, 120, YUP. I have had a couple of British Motorcicles since then, but, My main ride is Harleys. I now have, a bike that was also built in England, after WWII, Mine is a Harley, Model B, Hummer, the british version is a BSA Bantam. Welp, back onto topic. I just did the "Trigger Job" on Mine A2 Ishapore. You are right, I did not even know that it was a two stage trigger, it had been a pull, pull, pull and then maybe shoot. Now, it is just nice, smooth and then the stop at the second stage, a touch and it is gone. Thank You for this very nice Write-Up, it will make My Ishapore a much better rifle. |

I've had a Harley or two over the years and they have been good bikes. But I won't buy a new one, ever. Harley makes a big deal out of chanting USA, USA, USA! then make all of there accessories overseas. The Harley helmets are from Korea, the jackets from Pakistan, and everything else is from China or Indonesia. Even the bikes have lots of overseas parts, wheels from Mexico, electrics from Japan, chrome from China etc. They are still good bikes, no problems there, but Harley is being deceptive in the "made in USA" department. I have a Honda Goldwing that was made in USA, it's at least as much American as a Harley if you want to compare country of origins. No, I'll stick with my all "Made in England" Triumph until I can get an older Harley or Harley starts making USA made parts again.
But any case, I'm glad the trigger info helped. You will see your accuracy improve, and you will be wanting to shoot the rifle a lot more now that it has a smooth trigger. It's such a simple job, but one that I have seen cause people to sell a perfectly good rifle over because they didn't know how to fix it. Then again, if you have a 2A1 with a crappy trigger and don't want it cluttering up you gun cabinate, I will be more than happy to take it off your hands for $50

I got my No2 MkIV* trigger sorted as well. I used it in a small competition at the weekend instead of my usual No8. Got 3rd place with a score of 185/200. Thats 10 shots prone and 10 standing. I was very happy with that score; only acouple off what the No8 will do.

That is a nice score Zed, how far out were the targets ???
It would be nice to be able to see ahead, I would still have ALL of the British bikes I had ever owned. I too will never buy a new Harley, I would rather buy a Ural, at least there are no deceptive practices there, at least the not so older ones. Gold Wing too. Triumphs over here usually go for a lot of money, I just can not afford one, an older one, from the sixties or seventies. A friend that deals in British motorcycles, He has several barns full of the stuff, I sort of have been wanting a BSA Clubman, even for one in terrible condition, needing everything rebuilt and rusting away, is five thousand dollars, I do`nt know now if He would let one go for that much now though. Norman also flat-tracks His BSA 750 regularly, I know the heads He has reworked, I think He said it takes the Chevrolet 202 valves on the intake and Chevrolet 194 valves on the exhaust. He is a master when it comes to reworking the BSAs. That old 57 Thunderbird would sure fly. |

Our competitions are at 50 metres on standard C50 targets.
I also have motorcycles; although I don't get much time to ride them at the moment. I have a 1995 Triumph Speed Triple, a 1986 Yamaha XT500 and a 73 Kawasaki Z1 thats in need of renovation, when I get time!!

Some mighty good shooting non-the less.
You do have some mighty fine motorcycles, all three of them, those Z1s will sure go. The Speed Triple is a nice one too. I have never rode any of the new triumphs. There was a 650 advertised on Craigslist a while back for very cheap, I thought it may have been under 2500 dollars, may have even been 1500, I do`nt remember, but, I thought, that is very cheap, even if it needed a full mechanical overhaul. |

I ride a '71 TR6R. I am the second owner of the bike, I purchased it from his widow. It was sitting in a garage for some amount of years and needed a complete frame off. The only part missing on the bike when I got it was the seat pan. I picked it up for the princely sum of $800. I put about $1,500 into the bike for a frame off resto, and I have been riding it for the last 12 years with no issues (except for the time I ran out of gas, and the other time I left the point cover loose in the rain- my bad, not the bikes). I will NEVER sell that bike. I finally have a bike that other people wish they had.
50 meters, iron sights. Not a bad score at all! You see, the Ishy's have potential, once you get past the legendary quality control problems. I hope more collectors take heart with their 2A1s and realize that at the core they are every bit Enfield and can be made to be just as accurate as any other.
