Sarasparks, Actually blokes, all arms made at Enfield lock are Enfields.

So are those that are made at Savage, Long Branch, Lithgow, Birmingham, Maltby, Fazakeley, Ishapore, PoF still 'Enfields' ?

Indeed, but like I said, I wouldn't know one from the other or if they were connected etc. I'm not a gun person...but I have joined the site that was suggested for Briish Military and have found all that is needed for my edification on the subject. Hope you can all forgive a 70 year old woman ignorant of guns to have unwittingly found the wrong site.

I would look at it this way, the development of Lee’s initial design for a military rifle was undertaken by RSAF at Enfield. The other factories that manufactured the Lee Enfield are based on the sealed patterns produced at Enfield.
It’s understandable that those unfamiliar with Enfield rifles might mistakingly think that a Snider Enfield, Martini Enfield, Lee Enfield, a Patt 14/15 or M1917 Enfield are just different versions of “Enfields”. But even that is not entirely wrong. Enfield played a role in the design of all of these rifles.

Sara;
I wouldn't say you have found the "Wrong site" by any means. Its an Enfield, & thats all that matters. I hope your not getting the wrong impression from members on here. Believe me - you are most welcome here. AND.. I would certainly like to see some pics of your Snider.

Sara: Its a small site & the members are a diverse bunch. We are a Le-Enfield forum primarily, but not exclusively.
But don't let that chase you away, there are some on here who are knowledgeable on the earlier precursors, but they aren't on the site constantly. Because of that you may have to wait a while to get answers but if we know it they will be glad to provide it. The link to the other site wasn't meant to push you away, but to put you in touch with a site more closely related to your quest, so you'd get more, faster (& possibly better) response to your questions.
There were many rifles made at Enfield Lock, (which is where the "Enfield" in Lee-Enfield comes from), but there were Enfields that weren't Lee Enfields & Lee Enfields that were not ever in Enfield lock.
The Armorer speaks ONLY for himself, not the site. The site isn't quite that crusty. Good god man, we even discuss American Enfields which have nothing in common with the L-E line they're a sneaky Boche Mauser copy. It says " everything Lee Enfield", but it does not say " exclusively" anywhere in there!

Sara, we would still like to see a photo of your Snider if you can post. The icons above the reply text box should show two small squares overlapping with a upwards diagonal pointing arrow. Click on that, it expands the icon list. Then click on the square showing a tree. That opens a link to you photos stored on your computer/iPad or what ever device you are using. Select your photo and click upload. That will put the photo into your reply box.
There are a few members here with knowledge of Snider Enfields. I have a Mark III (the last version). They typically are not worth a lot of money unless you happen to have something very rare and in excellent condition.
Regards

She's been trying but is having a problem with her server. I've been working with her via PM to get it sorted, but it might take a couple of days. Sarah: if you're still stuck I'll PM you my e-mail, send them to me & I'll get them posted for you.

Maybe we should also be discussing Royal Enfield's.
If you were on a forum with the focus on Ford autos would you expect to have much discussion on BMW's ? |
Should we not be discussing Metfords and Cooey's then The Armourer?? Or the No2Mk1 revolvers and any and all bayonets for that matter? I only ask because the Lee-Metfords and Cooey's are not Lee-Enfield rifles. More so to the point, the No2Mk1 and all those bayonets on here are by definition alone, NOT Lee-Enfield rifles. P14 and P17 rifles by definition alone are not Lee-Enfield rifles as well, nor is the 1853 Towers Rifles. None of the items listed above are LEE-ENFIELD rifles. So yes, you are very correct when you addressed the fact that this is a forum for Everything Lee-Enfield. You did unfortunately fail at also noting that we also do in fact touch on other subjects as well, including such items as revolvers, bayonets, Enfield related accessories, and even Off Topic subjects like M1 Garands and Government related issues. Lest we forget that we are now participating in a daily morning coffee and weather report as well The Armourer and that has absolutely nothing to do with Everything Lee-Enfield. The OP came on to this site looking for information regarding a rifle with the name Enfield in its title of a Snider Enfield. Some folk here just opened up and gave the OP what information they have concerning Snider Enfield rifles and for that alone they should be applauded. You however have basically chastised the OP for simply showing up and asking a question. Take into consideration that she got to this site from other sites recommending this site as a viable solution to her problem. And think on that one the next time you decide that a person deserves that form of negativity to a straight forward question concerning something that he or she is unfamiliar with..... .....

i want to also welcome sara , we have been extremely responsive to the thread with the very best we could offer including offering another site - because we do care that you got the best info possible , we also explained our focus here and the limitations that this vast subject has for any one individual or site ,
part of the reason we all found ourselves here is because we have found interest in this very complicated subject and have been willing to study and research our area of interest , i think this was a very good example of an area related to what we concentrate on [and some of us actually owned] that is just outside of our common discussion area ,
ive seldom mentioned my long lees - others have , ive almost never mentioned my snyder or P1853 muzzel loader , i knew the discussion would be limited to a couple of us here that owned them and cared about them , i used the other site for that , i seldom discussed my springfield trap doors , krags , M1903s , M1garand & carbine , my M14 & 16 , because this was not the site for those discussions , ive mentioned my 22s & my cowboy guns but only in the OT forum and mostly because im still active in that ,
i guess the bottom line is , we tried to be helpful , we might not always come off as socially acceptable as we might wish - some of us are very "to the point" , i personally like that but i understand if someone might get their hackles up , no one here is rude or offensive ever , some of us are just more direct in our responses ,

Welcome Sara! Please don't feel intimidated or disappointed for asking a totally reasonable question. As in life, you meet different people with different opinions. While everyone is free to express their opinion, if done respectfully, it is definitely not the opinion of what I believe to be the majority of members on this site. There are many rifles talked about (AR's, Mausers, Cooeys, etc) I hope you find answers to your questions as there are some very knowledgeable people here. If I'm wrong, I apologize for asking questions in regards to my Cooeys 82.
