my 1898 LEC 1 is missing the magazine cutoff, a gentleman on another forum thinks he may have one. What should I be looking for in difference from the common No1 type? He is going to send me pictures.

That is very helpful thank you. I suspect the CLLE would be correct.

Olddust, The cutoff for the charger-loader would probably work in your rifle, but in my opinion would be incorrect.  Don''t forget that your rifle and the earlier Lee Metford used the round nosed Mk II ammunition.  The charger-loader upgrade generally used the spitzer Mk VII. I'd be inclined to try and obtain the previous example which is recorded as issued with the Lee Metford. My view is supported by actual examples in my collection, all of which I have. Terry

Terrylee, Again I thank you. I am waiting for a copy of Skennertons book to come in the mail. I am a novice beyond the basics when it comes to enfield rifles, and hope to gain more knowledge as time goes on.

Howdy Olddust;one of the differences please to note in the C/O’s MLM 93 thru CLLE 05 is the step down design on the underneath side,different then the SMLE type 2 thru MKV underneath side.
Photo for reference;
MLM-95 on the left;
CLLE-05 on the right;
Cheer’s & good luck on hunting one up 👍

Parts will come over time. Hopefully there will be a break in this pandemic soon so we can get the local gun shows up. So many goodies were discovered in boxes on those tables..
I wish I could get a clear grasp of its history. The wood is sanded clean and the disc hole is plugged. I can only guess that part at this point.
