" Weeding the bleeding thing occasionally!" Love it I'll show this to a friend of mine who's notorious for NOT cleaning his goose gun after a days shooting.  I've lost track of the number of times Alex has had to strip the shotgun down and rebuild it.

I would suggest that probably (just my opinion) the most useful accessory for the Lee Enfield Rifle is that shown in the bottom right of the above picture.

It can be hard to get hold of at a reasonable price, and it does get 'consumed' so regular replacement is necessary but it does add to the fun of Enfield ownership.

Looks like a great rifle.

Mine also has the P.W. mark on the Disc, yours is the only other rifle with it that I've seen. Not saying that there are not more out there, there could be tons of em, It's just ive only seen the 2 now.

The bolt disassembly tool is also a pretty handy thing to have. Back when i first got into Lee enfields I had a guy make one for me. I didn't bother trying to find a real one LOL

Feel free, Tony. It was my second favorite catchphrase, usually reserved for the clever sod that used "Brasso" on his cap badge but couldn't find a way to remove the green residue from the nooks & crannies of the old Albatrosses butt feathers.  The first being "get fell in in three heaps, you 'orrible lot!" I have to ask.
Is that felt, cork or whatever washer inside your butt trap on the brass butt plate original? I've never seen one there before.

Let me add one to the "Don't use the pull through" list. About a year and a half ago, a gentleman brought in a pretty nice #1 MkIII in which he used the original pull through to clean the bore. When force was used to pull it through, the aged fibres of the twine snapped, We had a devil of a time removing that sucker!

Let me know what I am doing wrong.  The Pic size is less than 5Mb and is jpeg but still wont upload. I really want to know what all the markings mean.

I've found thick felt washers in the butt trap of several Enfields over the years. I assumed these were meant as padding to prevent contact between oilers and the stock bolt head.

I suppose most of these ended up falling out or getting stuck to the cleaning materials and pulled out and lost.
I think one of the washers was of thick split leather rather than felt, but greasy and crumbling away so it was hard to tell.

Hatcher's Notebook mentions several similar incidents with American rifles, mostly due to troopers using the cord from the Campaign hat as a substitute for a missing pull through cord.
Occasionally rifles would be damaged when they tried to shoot out a stuck pull through, sometimes using a cartridge with the bullet removed.

There should always be one at the bolt head, for just the reason you describe. However this one was attached to the back (inside) of the butt-trap door. There shouldn't be a need there as the wrapped pull through is plenty of padding as well as shock & sound absorption.Confused

Well most of it has been said but a couple of things I would add.......
Oil bottles are not usually leak proof, in fact, I haven't found one yet that didn't deposit all the bloody oil in my cleaning kit Cry
This one is dry and will stay that way!!

And this is what the butt looks like without the plate.

I have 2 pull throughs. One in the butt and a one made from synthetic cord that I use after I have shot. 4x2 is plentiful here so no problem with using it.

I also keep a split case extractor tool in my shooting box - you never know Wink

I got the idea from a much smaller oil bottle I use for B/P shooting. Replace the fiber washer with a #10 (11/16"od x1/2" id x 3/32") "O" ring & they'll quit leaking.Course they're not 100% authentic any more but you do gain a working oil bottle.
