I have been toying with the idea of spot welding a tab onto the 2A1 magazine to assist empty case extraction when used in a No4Mk1 that has been converted to 7.62x51mm. I used my L42 magazine as reference while doing the modification to the Ishapore magazine. The fabrication is done. It does exactly as it should and throws the empty cases away from the rifle no different then the original 303 setup. I need to finish the touch up rebluing but I will get to that later. It is surprisingly a very quick and straightforward process...

After doing this, I started wondering why this was not done instead, as opposed to those conversions that had a hole drilled into the side of the reciever ahead of the extractor screw to aid in case extraction. Alot easier to accomplish and no extra holes in the action body...

Thanks for posting this Goosic.  Does that rear lip on the mag need to be reformed so the magazine will seat properly into the receiver?

Not by very much. Just a little tweaking with some small plyers and one good smack on the bottom of the magazine with a rubber mallet when seating it for the first time into the reciever.

Do you think silver solder would hold it?  I don’t have a way to spot weld it to the mag.

I would think that soldering it together would work just as well.
