Is it a No.1 Mk3 or a No.4 Mk1? It should be stenciled  on the steel part as to what you have.

Without pics its impossible to tell.
Having said that if its marked as SMLE, ShtLE, or Rifle No1 Mk111, or Mk 111* then it needs the magazine on the RIGHT

But if its marked No4 Mk1, No4 Mk1*, No4 Mk2, No4 Mk 1/2, or No4 Mk1/3 , or No5 Mk1 then it needs the other one on the LEFT
I'd post images of the relevant rifles but that may not help if yours has been sporterised.

more info needed but i know we can help with this if you p[rovide something like a marking on the left receiver of a no4 or the right wrist of a no1, or , you could provide the serial number [x the last two digits if you want] it will tell us what rifle you have and we can give you a bit more info like where it was made and by whom , as well as when ,
