I may have asked this already too but how does everyone feel about South African surplus? I think it’s berdan-primed so no reloads and I believe it’s non-corrosive though I have heard it’s slightly hotter than other surplus. Does this jive with you guys?

I shot a wad of it back in the day when it was cheap. It never made me think it was a hot load. Seemed like at times the only issue I had with it was leaving a brass like residue in bore which caused me some additional scrubbing.

FlyPiper, can you tell us what the head stamp is on the cartridge case.

I have shot a fair bit of A80.  It is non-corrosive Berdan primed.  I did not Chrono the load, but it felt like any other military Mk 7 issue ammunition in terms of recoil and bullet point of impact on the target was pretty much the same as my Canadian DI and DAC Mk 7.  Accuracy was fairly decent, not the best, but not the worst I’ve seen either.

There are 2 basic South African".303's"

The old corrosive big Berdan primed, cordite powered .303"

The newer '80 & '81 R1M3Z
Non corrosive, no cordite.
I clocked some a while back.
Lo 2486FPS
HIGH 2622 FPS
Avg 2500 FPS
(all instrumental at 10')
ES was 137.5 & SD was 32.6.
It feels different from PPU, so maybe that's what you're noticing?

It was good factory ammo.
I had a "mysterious delivery" of quite a lot of it.
I still keep some as "fire & forget" ammo.
