Spare a thought for the guys who gave their all in Normandy 70 years ago today.
Remember their sacrifice and their courage.

Heard a nice story on the BBC news tonight: A 89 year old veteran was reported missing by his nursing home. He phoned later in the day from Normandy! Joined his mates for the trip without telling anyone in case they tried to stop him going. Excellent!!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

the memorials of this event always move me - so fitting , even BO seemed to say the right things ,

as my father was in the pacific it also reminds me of what might have been had we invaded japan to end the war , im thankful for the manhatan project for taking that off the table ,

Between D-Day & D+3, an awful lot of men paid the price.
As time passes, the urgency & signifigance with later generations will fade. There wont be anyone that was there, to tell them.
You don't get the "feel" from a movie, like you do from a vet.

My Father was in the Pacific also ... He ended up going all the way Island to Island and then to the occupation.... His most prized war trophy was a bar of soap. Given to him during the occupation by an old man who was hungry and would not take the rations my Father tried to give to him unless he traded something for them. and all he had was a bar of soap.
I can not tell this in a way that you would feel it , as my Father could tell you!!  the Rifles and swords he brought back did not get the protection that the bar of soap did!!! Probably because of the way each one was taken.

One of the Officers he looked up to and thought so much of is how I got my first name! He was so proud that I named my first Son after me!!!!
