After some research on how to do the bedding on my No1Mk111, I tried the method I had read of stating to add upward and downward presure at the muzzle and under the middle band.
I cut a strip of cardboard 1/2 inch wide and long enough to wrap around the barrel, these were then masking taped into place around the barrel. After a short period of time, I had the "packing" done and put the wood back on the rifle.
A stripper clip was loaded with 150 grain Hornady and another was loaded with 180 Hornady RN, I shot at 55 yards.
The 10 shot group went into 2.5 inches, my first barrel packing job had worked very well.

Did you oil or grease the card first?
It you didn't I suggest you do so right away. Oiled or greased card is fine for this but if its "plain" it becomes a rust creating moisture trap. |

Good point Shami, I did oil the shims, I thought they may get wet. Now that I know it works, I am going to try a better shim material, no matter what it is, it will still have to be oiled.
I will probably take it apart after hunting season and redo the shims and check for any rust. If that happens, a little oil and a bit of steel wool takes care of it.
