he!!o, Have been looking at this forum for some time now.
Nice place and Good info! Been shooting actively since 8 years old, except the last ten years and getting back in the game. I have a Model P17 Winchester barrel stamped 10-18 everything matches. And a model Mark 1 #3 very original. I'll post some pic's and questions in the proper forums. TWEEKER |

welcome , good to have you go from lurking to posting ,
not to nit pick but we try to keep things clear for the benefit of all who read these threads , proper nomenclature for the US rifle model 1917 would be M1917 , the proper nomenclature for your SMLE would be no1 mkIII/III* depending on age

My error, fingers are tree stumps sometimes. Proof reading could use some help to! I agree that correct information is important. What is the age and or difference between No 1 Mark 111 or 111*. Mines stamped BSA 1915.

The No1 Mk III* were made during the latter half of WWI The long range volley sight and magazine cut off were deleted to simplify production

BSA started the change from mkIII to mkIII* in late 1915 , some started before others in 1916 , im guessing for the other post yours is late 1915 into the change
