When Rhino & Lisa were here, I was gonna take 'em down the road to Ft.Erie..but like I said to them,"We lost that one...nothing to see here." The U.S had taken the fort(other side of the river from Buffalo), & they retreated there after their defeat @ Battle of Lundy's Lane, which led to the siege of Ft.Erie. There again, after hard fighting (& big losses on our side) the U.S. abandon the fort, & crossed back over the river.(Guess we could have avoided this if Canada Customs had of done their job & refused them entry!
Ah well, they still do archeological digs in Ft.Erie, & every now & then another U.S. serviceman's remains are found. Big deal-pomp & circumstance as the bridge is closed down & the repatriation ceremony takes place. Gets tourists & commuters riled-up good for the huge delays..but maybe while they sit & fume...they can think about what 200 years of peace has brought, & just maybe while they are at it - they can pay a little respect for those that sacrificed .Since that time, the U.S. hasn't fought a war without Canadians in the ranks to some degree. Plenty went Stateside to volunteer in every war. Funny that..makes one wonder...Naw-It'll give me a headache. Hoadie |

just sos ya know - we love our cajuns , they make excellent food , they are honest people , and they are americans thru-n-thru , not looking to develop, their own country in the middle of one that exists , just looking to exist in an established country that says your free , they been here long before the country was born , but bought into that notion of freedom to be who you are , i think WR will agree
let me know if you don't , i'm always open to persuasion to change my opinion ............but one day hope to share a beer [OR TWO-MAYBE MORE] and some crawdads on the grill ,

Plains of Abraham (Quebec City) went down in 1759.(Not long before U.S. war of Independence). The French lost (as usual). The British allowed the Acadians their language, traditions & freedom. But - they were to swear allegiance to the Crown, & keep the peace. Some wouldn't.France refused to take 'em back. So-the "trouble makers" were kicked out. Louisiana was still a French colony so that's where they went. Then...ALAKAPOOF!
A whole new culture was born! Been workin well for quite a while now. [<:o)] (But-Cajun "French" aint French at all..They cant understand the French, & the French cant understand them! (During WWII they even called the Canadian French troops to try & translate..but they couldn't understand 'em either. This resulted in a name attached to them by the French, that was a derogatory term for a certain part of the female anatomy. That term evolved into what Rhino refers to as "Coonass". Just sayin... Hoadie |

Crawfish on the grill???? Never tried that...We boil them little suckers !! As for Cooking... Ask Hoadie , I got him out of a bine when a bunch of his friends came out to the cabin to meet the Wife and I, Hoadie said we dont have enough food to feed every one !!! I asked Hoadie how much of the Moose steak he had left over from the night before and if he had enough rice... and so I made him and his friends a Moose Gumbo!!!! It was a hit! I had all his friends standing around me watching me make the roux for the Gumbo!! Made it on the BBQ Grill and it came out great!! |
